Laura is one of 10 DI women chosen as an NCAA WotY semifinalist. The 30 overall semifinalists(10 from each division) will be narrowed to 9 in September, and the winner will chosen from them in October.

Previous WotY finalists from NDSU are:
1996 Jenni Rademacher(Basketball)
1999 Theresa Lang(Basketball)
2000 Jayne Even(Basketball)

From 1991 to 2005, the selection committee chose one woman per state to create the field for selection. From 2006 onward, each conference was allowed to submit one name(two, if one of them were an ethnic minority) and 30(10 from each division) were then chosen to be semifinalists.

State winners from NDSU:
1992: Lisa Ristau(CC/T&F)
1993: Julie Johnson(CC/T&F)
1995: Linda Rath(Basketball)
1996: Jenni Rademacher(Basketball)
1998: Andrea Jeseritz(CC/T&F)
1999: Theresa Lang(Basketball)
2000: Jayne Even(Basketball)
2002: Jill Theeler(CC/T&F)
2004: Kinsey Coles(CC/T&F)
2005: Kinsey Coles(CC/T&F)

In 2006 & 2007, NDSU was not part of a conference, but we were able to nominate a woman as an independent.

2006: Katie Lorenz(Basketball)
2007: Sheila Parrish(Volleyball)

Starting in 2008, nominations went through the Summit League. Only one or two women were chosen from the entire conference. An NDSU woman has been one of those selections in both years.

2008: Lisa Bue(Basketball)
2009: Laura Hermanson(CC/T&F) - Semifinalist

The talk about Mertens and the Campbell Trophy reminded me of Laura and the NCAA WotY Award. Laura didn't make the final field of nine that was selected a couple weeks ago. The three DI women selected were Amanda Blumenherst of Duke(golf), Ashleigh Clare-Kearney of LSU(gymnastics), and Lacey Nymeyer of Arizona(swimming & diving).

Best of luck on your post-NDSU career(and life), Laura. Thanks for the memories.
