Not sure which thread this should go under with all the different recruiting threads, but Indiana State is putting together another nice recruiting class of skill players. I don't know what they are getting on the oline but they got verbals in the past couple days from a player many thought should have been Mr. Football, Shakir Bell. I saw him in the state finals game and he was unbelievable. He's small which is why he's going FCS but he was quick and played hard. He left the field limping several times only to come back and help lead his team to a state championship.

The QB on his team, Derek Hart, also verballed to FCS. He took a lot of heat during the season because he was more of a drop back QB in a system that usually has very athletic QBs. This school has sent several players to BCS schools the past few years. He didn't overly impress me with this accuracy but he is a coach's kid and big (6'4" I think) with some raw talent.

They also picked up a kid from Terre Haute who was the all-conference QB in the same conference. The conference has the 4 or 5 best teams in the state every year and the Terre Haute schools are typically at the bottom. I heard amazing things about this kid though.

They also picked up a transfer QB from U of Washington that is supposed to be good. The ISU coach had previously been with Ty Willingham so he has connections to UW.

Things are definitely looking up for the Sycamores. Curious to see if this coach can keep it together and make something of this team.

Star Tribune is saying that John-Crockett from Totino-Grace is going to NDSU, not sure what position but he has good speed and lots of vertical. There's just a little blurb in the Star Tribune about it.

If true that is a pretty good grab for SU. I saw him play - he's a running back and is very fast and athletic, with decent size. Although 4A is a step down from the big boys, this kid is definitely a nice player and easily was one of the best RBs in the metro.

Good work! FWIW, I've heard that Jesse Hinz will be tried first on the OL. Dudzik and Heagle are both most likely to be tried first at safety.

Holy sh!t, that's not bad numbers at all. Hopefully we can still land Allen (unless he signed elsewhere?) as he sounded like a pretty legit RB. And that kicker.

But hey, great class! Definitely looking forward to the next four years.

I am still surprised we held all the early verbals. I expected to lose some and the way Bohl sounded they kind of expected to lose some to but they worked real hard and were able to keep all of them.

My theory on Allen is that maybe an FBS school promised him some kind of an offer if that said school didnt get their top choices today

I think he is still coming, after listening to Hallstrom I think there are some "issues" (no clue what they are) that he needs to work out before he signs, but I think he is in.

Tough not to be excited about the last two classes. Couple more of these and the Bison will be looking GGGOOOOOOODDDD!

Word is that Allen will make an official visit in 2 weeks--amazingly, he hasn't actually been to Fargo, yet! There is a good chance he will eventually sign.

Word is that Allen will make an official visit in 2 weeks--amazingly, he hasn't actually been to Fargo, yet! There is a good chance he will eventually sign.

Yeah especially if Bohl is being the class act he always is and is holding the scholarship for this kid until he gets his family life situated and gets a chance to visit Fargo.

Dr Winter
Please do your part and dont bring an Alberta clipper in when Allen visits. You can dump on Fargo thru July, just not when he visits!!

Congrats to the staff. While being down a couple coaches, they put together what looks to be an amazing class. Ton of speed. They all seem to be HS running backs. They are great athletes. Good students, leaders, and really like to hit. The videos were terrific.

Great job to the staff for identifying the most recent additions to the Bison.

That's exactly right - somethings I brought back from last nights signing party.

1. 17 out of 22 signees were are our summer camp. Bohl said that it really makes recruiting easiler when you have them in camp to do the evaluations.
2. That a core group of them really hit it off at camp and became friends.
3. Almost all these kids have speed & can hit.
4. Olson is a natural leader - one coach said when he comes into the room he just takes it over. By the end of camp he was in the leadership role.
5. A lot of good students in the group
6. Summer camp was reason most signed early.
7. One coach feels that MN really missed on Olson & Vraa. Which is good for us.
8. The LB that UNI signed from MN was at the Bison camp and really didn't do well. Too slow.

As of 02/02/10, the local Arizona newspaper still had him pegged as a Bison. http://varsity.evtrib.com/story/150210. No update to explain why he hasn't signed.

Heck, even if he didn't have stuff to work out, I can't blame anybody for waiting to commit until after they make a visit.

I don't know how many people caught this Rivals ranking of recruiting classes. A few FCS teams made the list, NDSU has moved up to #126.

http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/teamrank.asp?Year=2010&Page=6&PosType=0&Sort=0

Interestingly, BVs best buddy from the Sports Network wrote an article about FCS recruiting, citing the Rivals ranking. He talked about all of the 'top' FCS schools on that list, except, wait for it, NDSU. He stopped just short of getting to the Bison

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfoot2/news/newstest.aspx?id=4286836

Go figure...

He just stated the top 5 FCS schools. Nothing wrong with that, except he must have forgotten that Eastern Washington is FCS and is rated above at least one of the schools he mentioned in his piece. Did you also want him to mention South Dakota and North Dakota who were right below us?? Top 5 is just fine with me.

That was probably Coulson's last article, he is done at Sports Network.

Like everything he ever wrote, he had to mention App State.

If we win 3 nat'l titles in a row and than lose in the semi's the next two years and beat Michigan in the Big House when they are ranked #5 in the country I bet we would get mentioned in every article as well. They had the most success of any program in FCS in the 2000's. They earned the recognition they get.

You do understand Coulson was App State's beat writer prior to coming to Sports Network? I understand having those connections and using them and that App was a great team. But he went a bit overboard at times, I remember he took a cheap shot at Bohl once, and some of his emails weren't exactly professional.

That considered he still wrote an article about FCS recruiting and mentioned the FCS school that according to rivals had one of the top classes. Don't really see the big deal.

Unfortunately, it's going to be impossible to find a completely unbiased writer for any level of football below FBS. Remember the NW Missouri lovefest that was D2football.com?

This article made it sound like SF Roosevelt actually finished first in the 4x400 and then was disqualified after the race for a bad exchange, but you made it sound like Washington was in the lead and coasted in. Did the Argus have things mixed up?

It was the 1600 medley relay that Roosevelt got DQ. 1600 relay Washington won easily. Washington had a lead to the 800 runner in the medley and Roosevelt cut off the 800 runner.

It's really good to hear that these young guys are coming in early. I was at a Redhawks game a couple weeks back and I saw a handful of guys working out and tossing the ball around at Dacotah. It was 7:00PM on a Saturday night. Made me feel pretty good about this upcoming season.

Interesting. These two are likely among the prime candidates to play right away because of their ability and a potential need at their position (safety).

I am starting to put together some track/field results for the 2010 class and I found that Tyler Gefroh wasn't competing this year because of a leg injury. Has anyone heard what type of injury it is? I looked back to the 2009 Class A meet and saw that he placed 5th in the 100 Meters and was a part of the 400 Relay champions. Sounds like he has some wheels. Hope his leg injury isn't too serious.

Heard somewhere along the way that Tyler is a Kittleson (I assume his mom.) He is a cousin to some of the other linebackers we've had at NDSU. If he's like the others, he's not only fast but a "linebacker" as well.

14.52 in the 110 hurdles tells me he has more speed than some will not give him credit for(meaning certain Goopher fans over in the Gopherhole).
