With all the HUGE accomplishments made in so many sports this year for Bison Athletics, how would you rank the Top 10 Accomlishments for this past school year?

1) Men's basketball team wins regular season, conference tournament, and makes the Big Dance

2) Softball team reaches NCAA Sweet 16

3) Volleyball team goes undefeated in conference play and makes NCAA tournament

4) Laura Hermanson dominates school records in track and Brost, Carlson and Gigsted join her at Nationals

5) Ben Woodside sets all-time scoring mark in men's basketball

6) 8 Bison football seniors earn shots in the NFL

7) Men's and Women's track teams each win total points at Summit Championships

8) Kole Heckendorf breaks school receptions and receiving yards records

9) Brett Winkleman becomes 2nd all-time leading scorer in men's basketball

10) Volleyball team nets Summit League player of the year (Knuth), defensive player of the year (Kelly Lopez) and coach of the year (Hinterstocker)

Pretty darn impressive stuff!!!
*note - I am far from an expert in many sports so I probably missed some stuff.

I think it's funny that a 1 point win over us in a down year for Bison football is such a big deal for the bunnies.

But that list is a sampling of one person's thoughts. Doesn't mean everyone thinks like that. I mean if that's the case, lakes speaks for all Bizon fans:hide:

And there were many people that thought the D-I move would be very difficult for sports other than football !!!

And there were many people that thought the D-I move would be very difficult for sports other than football !!!

I was one of those! I had my reservations for sure. I supported the move, but I thought it would take more time for our "other" sports to get up to speed, especially since they are competing at the highest level possible.

Not trying to hijack the thread, just replying to Road's post.

Great list!

15 yard penalty for drifting a thread TOWARD Lakes and his comments.

Let's keep this one on the rails.

I think that I would put softball making the sweet 16 as #1. Not the high profile sport like men's basketball but they proved they belong in the NCAA tournament by winning three games! Anyway, great list Hando!

They sorta kinda not really have a right to. I mean, it was how many years since they'd won in Fargo?

The track season is not over. So when Hermanson wins NDSU's first Division I National Championship, that is #1- no question!

They aspire to be like us...and they're jealous of the great tradition we have. We are their Super Bowl. They'd have to win about 4 out of 5 (or more) for the next 5 decades to catch up. It's a compliment.

For me...the SDSU game is mostly just another game. The Marker isn't that big a deal...to me...but that's just me. Winning programs can't afford to focus on one game. The game now is to play strong in the conference and to get to the 2nd season...that being the playoffs...with the fewest injuries possible. We need to play well...and travel well...to every away game. And at home, we need to rock the house. But the team needs to create the swagger. It's in their hearts. We have all the talent necessary to do great things.

You haven't been to the last several marker games, have you? Even though we lost the last two, they've been awesome. I want to crush them this year. Can't wait for another trip down to Brookings.

Gotta put the entire accomplishments of the senior class as one group up there...or at least Woody, winks and nelson.

So Mike Nelson and Woody made the honor roll - good for them.

Winks was named the Academic All-American.

No...Lump the accomplishments of the entire group...ie basketball stats...as one thing...because it was amazing as to how many records these three fell over the course of their careers. But I also agree that Winks being THE Academic All-American should be mentioned as well.

It would pretty interesting to see a complete list of what the NDSU athletes accomplished this year. Everything across the board. This year was a pretty amazing year. I never thought NDSU could have been where they're at this early.

I agree whole-heartedly. SDSU is now a significant rivalry. Yes, they've been our partners in transition and I respect their school and programs--but Rabbit games are now BIG games, and the Bison need to win them.
