I read somewhere that they are putting Austin Richard center and moving Buckman to guard. Do you know what that means? This will be one bad ass o-line. It's the largest line I have seen and it will wear down defenses. The runt of the litter is 6'2, 295 pounds! If this group can come together and gel, we may not need to pass.

75 Ebel, Gerry OT 6-6 308 Sr.
76 Buckman, Keith OT 6-5 312 Sr.
52 Arndt, Michael OG 6-6 310 Jr.
65 Foster, Ryan OG 6-2 295 Sr
63 Richard, Austin OL 6-2 322 So

I thought that the second unit did a nice job last Sunday too, especially Joe Lund, he can flat out drive block.

We control the ball and give the defense a break. That's a part of the scenario with Nick running the show. It'll be a new one.

Thanks Gabe. Optimism...love it. reps

Actually the runt of the litter is listed as 304 lbs in the spring game program -

Gerry Ebel RT 315 lbs
Ryan Foster RG 304 lbs
Austin Richard C 319 lbs
Keith Buckman LG 320 lbs
Michael Arndt LT 318 lbs

If this group can come together and gel, we may not need to pass.

I don't believe that an offense can only run. Highly unlikely that will ever be the case, especially out of the WC offensive sets.

Even the run based spreads like WVU and GT need to pass effectively once they do, otherwise they ultimately break down and a stacked D takes over.

The OL does look interesting. Basically the same guys as last year but moved around apparently to more appropriately utilize their individual talents. This group underperformed last year, presumably due to injuries, but this year's re-arrangement could be the most significant move by the new coaching staff and is obviously the brainchild of the new OL coach Fuchs.

Three-quarters of a ton to get'er done.

I hope so. I remember last year how much of a size advantage Wisconsin's o-line had over Cal Poly's d-line and CP handed them their asses. This group needs to have a great year.

Indeed. Sidney Haynes is here for a reason.

I'm pretty sure they knew last year that Richard would be playing center this year. I just wish he would have been able to get a few game reps at that spot. I know Harrington was there and was solid but I always like a player getting a taste of game reps as they are completely different than practice reps. I do think that this position group as a whole must improve and believe they will. They definately have the size and talent to do it.

With a good, controlling o-line, it means that Mertens can be protected from the rush better, meaning he won't be under pressure to make passes. Hopefully this will mean less deflections and more throws right in the numbers.

It all starts up front and the offensive line is encouraging. We have great depth at running back, fullback, and TE with the 6'7'' Veldman, Landon Smith, and the "God Of Thunder" Thor Brown.

Maybe the offense will be better than we think?

The only thing stopping us is WR and QB.

The key to this offense will be based on the quick development of Sidney Haynes, Warren Holloway, and Gary Williams. These guys are as skilled as anyone.Shamen will contribute later in the season.

Mertens is the big question mark but history is on his side The most improvement typically happens between a players 1st and 2nd year starting. He will never be Steve Walker but we don't need him to be. When the coaches put him in a positon to be successful and let him run the ball, he was pretty good. I think we got to see that in the SDSU game when he rushed for 60 yards and he had a good game going up until the last drive.

They must be off the milk and going to steak buffets. Imagine the grocery bill to feed this group. LOL. This is a very respectable lineup.

what does the depth chart look like after these 5?
We will need some production from the 2nds imho.

Good question, not sure there will be a actual two deep, but how about this:

Cornick- LT
Landingham-LG
Lund-C
Vadnais-RG
Wellenstein-RT (assumes he recovers from bad back, he is still on the roster)

As per most other years, I doubt more than one or two of these second teamers actually see playing time.

In the first half of the spring game, I believe the second team OL looked like this:

LT: Cornick
LG: Vadnais
C: Lund/Danilkowicz
RG: Landingham
RT: Britt

Landingham looks huge, has Britt put on more weight? 280 is kind of light.

Or it could be a bad ass-o-line.
