This may be a bit more difficult. Which record is the most impressive? Here are the records:

100 Meters 10.22 Allen Burrell 2004
200 Meters 20.23 John Bodine 1986
400 Meters 46.69 Marques Johnson 2004
800 Meters 1:48.51 Heith Janke 1998
1,500 Meters 3:42.85 Mike Bollman 1979
5,000 Meters 14:12.19 Doug Hanson 1991
10,000 Meters 29:33.70 John Zimmerman 1985
110 Hurdles 14.00 Luke Pfeifer 2000
400 Hurdles 51.69 Nathan Harms 1998
Steeplechase 8:48.67 Jake Januszewski 2007
Long Jump 25-11 John Bodine 1986
Triple Jump 51-9 3/4 Pete Wodrich 1987
High Jump 7-0 1/4 Charles Pokladnik, Brian Antoine 1993, 2001
Pole Vault 17-2 3/4 Ryan McGlynn 1995
Shot Put 55-9 1/2 Justin Camperud 2000
Discus 175-9 Mike Stratton 1985
Hammer 192-5 John Christensen 2005
Javelin 228-11 Riley Dolezal 2009
Decathlon 7,641 Andrew Aakre 2005
400 Relay 40.00 Gerald Forest, Stacy Robinson, John Bodine, Steph Weiand 1984
800 Relay 1:24.06 Andrew Aakre, Jared Essler, Marques Johnson, Allen Burrell 2005
1,600 Relay 3:07.75 Allen Burrell, Jared Essler, Reece Vega, Marques Johnson 2004
3,200 Relay 7:26.06 Chad Bergan, Cory Olson, Eric Stroh, Ross Schilling 2007
6,400 Relay 16:48.00 Curt Bacon, Scott Hoaby, Nick Gervino, Jed Krieg 1980
Sprint Medley 3:24.38 Jason Crocker, Jerry Boschee, Kraig Klefsaas, Todd Ericksrud 2000
Distance Medley 9:43.65 Mike Bollman, Kevin Donnalley, Rick Paul, Curt Bacon 1979

My vote is a tie between Mike Bollman's 3:42 1500 or Aakre's Decath.

You never gave us your thoughts on most impressive women's performance :) I figure you know track a lot better than me based on your posts.

Wow, those are some amazing times and distances.

10.22 in the 100 is outstanding but I think Burrell had a pretty strong wind at his back.

That John Bodine 20.23 in the 200 is AMAZING (I'm not as familiar with what constitutes a great distance time) and so is his 25'11 in the long jump. Hmm... I'm going with the long jump mark.

That 400 relay time of 40 seconds is ridiculous. You understand that each guy is averaging a 10 second split. And in 1984 and Divison II none the less!!

And that team consisted of a guys from Hebron and Bismarck. And two Minnesota guys from St.Paul and Barnesville.

I checked a the NCAA DI results for 2006 and 2008 - Bodine's 200 meter time and long jump distance would have won both in 2008 and been a 1st and 4th in 2006.

On the other hand, that 4x100 and 4x400 times would place which is really impressive because it speaks of the depth of talent that NDSU had with those teams. Hmm, and that 4x800 meter had four guys averaging 1:51 splits! 4x400 had 46.75 splits (not bad considering the school record in the 400 meters is 46.69) :)

Also, great point about how the better competition helps push people - I'd imagine this is especially true for distance runners. Heck, maybe the longer season will help too; by mid-June, Fargo might have seen a couple days of nice training weather.

BTW, I'm changing my answer - that 1500 meter time by Mike Bollman is freakish. After checking the NCAA results, that time would have won in 2006 and been 2nd in 2007 and 2008.

Man, I'd have loved to see all these races in person.

400 relay and the 1500. To bad Bodines long jump was not an inch longer since i think 26 feet is olympic qualifying. If i am not mistaken, i believe coach Brent went 26 and tried out for the olympics

Yes, Parmer went 25'10" in college many times and was on a 400 Relay team that went 40.77 when their fastest 100 runner was probably 10.6.

Some have said that you could write a book about the late Mike Bollman. He had freakish talent, but he was also a bit of an eccentric. The story is that he started an open campfire in his dorm room to roast hotdogs and got kicked out for the year. He lived in the official's stand for the rest of the school year at the old NDSU track which is now Newman Outdoor Field.

It is interesting that Mike Slack is not in the record books since I believe he came very close to making it to the Olympics.

Got some wildcards for you - found these times from NDSU football players in the NCC record book.

Delbert Moore: 220-yard dash in 21.1 (1954, subtract .1 for 200 meter equivalent).
Bruce Airheart: 440-yard dash in 47.4 (1964, subtract .3 for 400 meter equivalent).

In 1952, the Olympic bronze medal time at in the 200 was 20.8. Wow - if Delbert were running on today's tracks with today's training who knows how fast he'd be able to go?

And it wasn't until 1984 that an NCC runner ran a 400 meter dash faster than Bruce Airheart ran the 440 meters.

My new vote is for Delbert Moore's 220 time.

BTW, looking at the NCC record book, you can really spot the difference between NCC with NDSU and the NCC without NDSU. For example, in NDSU's last year, 46.69 won the 400 meters, and the very next year, 50.04 won - that time wouldn't even win most late-season HS meets!

Mens 400 Relay is most impressive to me. Same reasons as above.
4 10.00 splits in 1984 for a D-II team with 2 ND guys.

Yes, these guys were fast, but I am skeptical about this time since it does not say in the media guide where they ran this and that their time is 40 flat. That is highly unlikely with fully automatic timing. This team took 6th at nationals and I don't know if they have ever broken 41.00 other than this 40.00 that is the record. Most of the teams that broke 41.00 were from 2001 to present and Marques Johnson and Allen Burrell were on it.

I guess I could ask Lars about the 40 flat, and I am positive that I would get a great story out of it along with some kind of fishing reference. That guy is the greatest!

I'll take Mike Stratton in the discus. What an overall stud that guy was/is.

He was one of my high school football coaches. He used to scrimmage against us without wearing any pads and he'd put the wood to us! Hahaha!

So you must be a West Fargo Packer. He was the strength and conditioning coach for years. The last I heard was that he was doing well as a pharmaceutical rep.

Mike Slack was my high school track and cross country coach. He was the greatest coach ever. The boys team would crowd around to get advice from Mike too. Gary Bjorklund would come watch our trackmeets/cross country meets. I never knew how lucky we were to have Mike as a coach.

He had been working at a Denver sporting goods company, Gart Sports? I believe it was taken over by sports authority.

One of the most impressive performances by a Bison male track performer was multiple-All American Warren Eide's conference titles in the steeple, 5000 and 10000...all in the same meet. No one did that before or after.
