McFeely just said on the radio that (according to Kolpack) Troy Jackson has been "kicked off the team." The three DUI offenders have all been suspended indefinitely. No link yet.

Yep. Sounds like in light of the incidents, the football team is going to get a wake up call.

Troy Jackson was kicked off the team, Washington, Mohler, and Johnson are suspended indefinitely, while Bohl continues to look into their incidents, I would expect Mohler to be kicked off the team and who knows with Washington and Johnson.

Sweet. So we are right where we were last year. Mertens starting QB and a true freshman as the backup. Except we don't have an all-american RB and our stud LB's have graduated.

I'd still rather have a crappy year this fall if it means that we are going to clean house and get kids who are more committed to playing ball then partying. It should never have gotten this far but at least steps are being taken to prevent it from getting worse.

I'm interested to know how long suspended indefinitely is going to be, but this is definitely a good start. Let's hope Bohl doesn't have to go any further than this.

I'd assume that Mohler will be suspended until about 11:03 tomorrow when Mertens throws his third interception within three minutes of practice commencing.

So when Mertens sucks after the first four weeks of the season (cause we already know a 3 week suspension is minimum) and assuming Mohler has cleaned up his act and is a better QB in practice, will Bohl change QB's or just make us suffer through more weeks of Mertens? Quite the dilemma........

Or what if Merten blows his acl in the first fall practice and Brock goes down with a consussion in the first game. Then what's going to happen?

Even if that doesn't happen, the stupid decisions of some players coupled with the coaching staff's inability to consistently sign QB recruits multiplied by our staff having a new offensive and defensive coordinators = a potentially disastrous 2009 football season.

You want the whole release... that the forum didn't put out, here you go:

North Dakota State Football Announces Disciplinary Action

FARGO, N.D.--North Dakota State University head football coach Craig
Bohl announced today quarterback Troy Jackson has been dismissed from
the team, and wide receiver/return specialist Shamen Washington,
defensive end Garrett Johnson and quarterback Jose Mohler have been
suspended from the team indefinitely.

“Once the legal and university disciplinary processes are completed, and
I have had a chance to have discussions with these officials about the
outcome of these processes, this could lead to permanent dismissal from
the team,” said Bohl.

Jackson, who was charged with marijuana possession in February, was
dismissed due to repeated, off-field issues unrelated to the possession
charge. Washington, Johnson and Mohler were cited for driving under the
influence.

“The last thing these three need to think about right now is football.
They need to get their personal lives together,” said Bohl. “Playing
football is a privilege, not a right, and the players need to realize
they are held to a higher standard. This type of behavior is not
tolerated, never has been and never will be. It goes against who we are
as a football program.”

Bohl said Washington, Johnson and Mohler will be required to perform
community service during their suspension. This is above and beyond what
the legal system may require. Bohl said he is working with the NDSU
Alcohol and Other Drugs Programs and the Counseling Center on a
long-term drug and alcohol prevention strategy. This is in addition to
the efforts the athletic department is currently doing on an on-going basis.

Jackson, a 6-foot-1, 221-pound senior from Los Angeles, Calif. (Fairfax
H.S.), played in three games after transferring from Los Angeles Valley
College. He completed 3 of 6 passes for 24 yards.

Washington, a 5-foot-6 1/2, 147-pound senior from St. Petersburg, Fla.
(Boca Ciega H.S.), played in three games before being sidelined by a
knee injury in 2008. He had received an NCAA waiver of the five-year
period of eligibility to compete during the 2009 season in January.

Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 256-pound sophomore from Chaska, Minn. (Chaska
H.S.), played in all 11 games including one start in 2008. He recorded
21 tackles including five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Mohler, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound redshirt freshman from Cardiff, Calif.
(La Costa Canyon H.S.), was a redshirt in the NDSU football program in
2008.

North Dakota State is scheduled resume spring practice,
weather-permitting, with session No. 3 at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, on
the grass practice fields.

The Bison open the season at Iowa State on Sept. 3. NDSU completed the
2008 season with a 6-5 record including a 4-4 mark to tie for
fourth-place in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

This decision can be defended on the merits, but let's acknowledge what the real factor in this decision was: Jackson was the example for the team because he wasn't going to play. He is an easy one to dismiss. The players who appear to have ability are still here. It's nothing more than that, so I'm not going to applaud for anybody doing the "right thing" because this is more like the "smart thing." It placates everyone who wants heads to roll and preserves the football team.

This is what I said from the start. No way the guys with the DUI's where getting kicked off because Johnson is to good of a player. Good young D-linemen are hard to find and it takes a special one to come in a have to contribute as a true freshman. This would be the case for one of your freshmen next year if Johnson where to get booted.

You can't kick Mohler off because he's got the same offenses as Johnson, a minor and a DUI, who cares if they both happened at the same time or seperate time. Its two offeneses.

I think Bohl took the easy way out of a difficult situation that no school would like to be in. Its an unfortunate situation and hopefully the players don't put him through it anymore.

I thank you for sharing your opinion, but do not see any facts which support the opinion.

Your unsubstianted use of the race card diminishes the value of this post (perhaps this is only my opinion, so I should state: To me, Your ...)

Vandal's offense(s) was (were) MIP, not DUI. I realize that the letters are all caps for both, but the meaning is somewhat different.

Does someone really have to find the post about Lee Vandal? Dude was having a beer with his girlfriend on a date when he got his last minor. Different situations call for different measures. He didn't get a DUI with pot. Seriously.

Also. 5 year ago, we SUCKED. I still think we will be solid next year. I thought the Seniors last year lacked leadership and overall weren't that good. I am excited that we have some talented young kids coming up. Obviously we need some kids to step up, but the WR position is clearly better. Mertens has to be a stud...and until that happens, we will be an average football team. I still think going into a game at Iowa State is a blast. Outdoor Big 12 game......or Augie from 5 years ago. I hope Montbison makes it and has a blast. The bandwagon can't afford people to leave over a couple of kids that made brutal decisions.....which happens at EVERY D1 school in America.

Really? Wow...Vandal were minors, very questionable minors at that, big difference from a DUI...

Oh, and I can promise you that if these would have happened at Texas or USC they would have surfaced. Florida St. just before spring practice had a WR who got a DUI...it made the news...the reason this is getting so much attention is because this is for the most part out of the ordinary for this program, the bigger programs seem to have more of it.

Not ready for a black QB? Really? I honestly don't care if you are white, black, purple, green, or the damn red tellitubby, if you can make smart decisions with the ball, get it to WR's so they can make plays, and are a leader, I will be a fan. Maybe we do need to look into the red tellitubby though...

I dont think anyone really cares about what skin color our qb is. People just want a qb that is good. Jackson wasn't a starter for a reason. The little playing time he got, he looked pretty inaccurate with his throws.

Well Mohler was arrested twice, like Jackson, already plead guilty, what other facts are you looking for. Possession of weed and a DUI aren't much different in the eyes of the law. Driving with a suspended license and two Minors have to be pretty close, what would he be waiting for? Its easy to get rid of the guy who isn't going to play to make an example, thats all I was saying.

You have your opinion and I respect it. I've actually said from the start that a few game suspension for all these guys would have been enough, especially when you didn't kick a guy off the team who got three MIPS in a year span. Its to hard to kick one guy off the team that just got a DUI and not another guy. Its a tough spot for Coach Bohl and I do not envy him. Thats my thoughts and I was just agreeing with another poster on the board, not trying to start anything.

The Bison have already had two black qb's. Arden Beachy was the most recent, but does anybody remember Lou Hudson back in the 70's?

Who can forget the ""much loved Herb Hudson" It was his brother Lou who played D-back but never really made it. Lou was more mouth than anything else. Herb was actually a pretty good guy and not a bad QB.

GodBlessDaBison is either Jackson or someone connected to him(parent, sibling, friend, etc). Every one of his/her 30 posts has had something to do with Jackson; most trying to put him above Mohler on the depth chart or excusing him after his infractions. I think we can safely dismiss his/her comments as being posted in the heat of anger over the dismissal.

ACUALLY JACKSON HAD A SUSPENDED LICENCE IN CA FOR MISSING COURT WHEN HE WAS OUT HERE GOING TO SCHOOL, AND HE WAS DRIVING TO PRACTICES AND SCHOOL AND TO SANDBAG WITH THE REST OF THE FOOTBALL TEAM. THE MEDIA CAN NEVER TELL BOTH SIDES OF A STORY, JACKSON WAS PRETTY MUCH USED AS AN EXAMPLE BECAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED WITH EVERYBODY ELSE ON THE TEAM. IF THIS WAS USC OR TEXAS NONE OF THIS WOULD PROBABLY BE SURFACED THE WAY IT IS IN FARGO OR AT LEAST THE WAY IT WAS HANDLED WOULD OF BEEN DIFFERENT, MAYBE BECAUSE (AND THIS IS A BIG MAYBE) WHAT WOULD THE FANS WOULD THINK IF JACKSON ACUALLY HAD A YEAR UNDER HIS BELT TO TAKE THE SPOT FROM MERTENS IN SPRING BALL BUT HE WOULDNT BE ABLE TO PLAY FOR THE FIRST TWO GAMES, AND ON TOP OF THAT, THE FANS IN REALITY WASNT READY FOR A BLACK QB TO TAKE THE HELM AT QB. SO BOHL PROBABLY DID THIS FOR NOW AND DOWN THE ROAD IN FALL OF 09. WE JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS... BUT CAN YOU GUYS ANSWER THIS QUESTION? WHERE WAS ALL OF THESE PATS ON THE BACK FOR BOHL WHEN LEE VANDAL GOT HIS 2ND OR 3RD DUI??? HMMM

Plus Vandal never got a DUI.

Anyway, I think Bohl really thought hard about this. I don't like it when player A does something and gets slapped on the wrist, player B does something similar and gets a slap on the wrist, but then player C and D misbehave and get an anvil dropped on them. I think it was an inspired move to revisit all four cases.

If I were Brock Jensen, I'd probably show up this summer.

These are pathetic words from a pathetic person IMO! If race was an issue for the team Jackson would never have been signed. Face it he didn't have what it takes to get above 3rd on the chart Live with it, he made mistakes that put his career on the line, I for one would have booted him for the Mary Jane possesion, no wonder he had problems with the plays its a complicated playbook when your stoned!!

that's in one of the stupidest things I have ever seen posted on Bisonville. That's saying alot because I think I've read pretty much everything that Lakes has posted on here (no offense Lakes). I'd just like a little more explanation this. Are you from the past and just recently emerged in 2009 through some sort of wormhole or something? This isn't 1960 anymore, and it's not going to shock anyway if a black guy is our quarterback. And I'm curious, what do you mean we're not ready for a black quarterback? Is there homework we have to complete as fans or something? Do we need to attend some sort of classes before we are deemed ready? I think it's obvious you have some sort of issue with race and therefore your projecting those insecurities toward the Bison fans. Truth is, the majority of us or not as close minded as yourself. He got kicked off the team because he wasn't putting football and school first. End of story.

Youre full of crap and what does you being in the service have anything to do with this conversation???? Nice try.
The fact is if Jackson was good enough he would have been playing. The mans color has nothing to do with it. As a matter of fact if he was a stud QB we wouldnt be having this conversation. If he helps the Bison win the fans dont care if hes green or purple.
You may now go back to reading Jessie Jackson and Al Sharptons book on how to play the race card.

Does anyone know if Dan Offerman is on or off the team as I don't see him listed on the roster. Last I heard he was coming on as a very strong defensive tackle.

Offerman is still not academically eligible, therefore he cannot practice with the team. He is making very good progress, however, and unless there is a major hiccup he will be in fall camp. He is lifting weights and working out on his own and by all accounts is a hard-working guy in the weightroom and in the classroom. He wants to play for the Bison. Despite his initial academic shortcomings, I think he is the type of kid this program needs, not a self-centered, selfish, arrogant kid like Mohler.

Where the hell is Offerman in the roster? Is he not practicing this spring and going to be on the fall roster, or is he a bust?

Fabry is hurt and not participating in spring football from what I was told. My sources also told me he is never going to be anything but a scout team QB, but I hold hope that is incorrect.

See previous post about Offerman. By all accounts he is going to have a very good career at NDSU, assuming he lives up to his potential. His work ethic is there.

Troy Jackson was a junior, that started at a JC, and got passed up on the depth chart by an immature true Freshmen. I won't even get into the off field stuff, because on the field he wasn't getting it done. Jackson wasn't used an example, Bohl had probably just had enough.

From Practice today:
Haynes, welcome to the show kid. You are a monster and the GO TO GUY. Plays with the ones and is the real deal.
Sounds like #28 Pete Blincoe is looking really good. Broke one nice run. Alot of high school coaches around for a camp. One was Sam Ojuri or something, not taking time to look it up. He is the HS Senior RB from Illinois that is coming. Coach said that he may not redshirt and that he is all class and the real deal. Great coach. It was the first practice and you could tell. The O line was off sides the entire practice.
Matt Veldman is now 7'4. I am sort of not kidding. He stretches the field like nobody we have ever had. If we don't see him NON STOP in the redzone this year, I am going to go nuts. He should have done that all year last year. He is an absolute stud. He went deep over the middle several times.
Our offense maybe can't score on this defense. In the first practice, the defense was just full of fire. The new LB coach is like having Ray Lewis out there. ALL FIRE. I mean, he had me fired up. Players were flying around. Preston Evans....you are the leader. Take over kid.
Overall, it was a nice way to burn a bit of a Saturday. Coaches were great, everyone happy. New coaches are full of fire and everyone was flying around the ball. I left pretty excited. Nick seemed like the leader we needed. Players were rallying around him, really fired up for him when he through a strike. He looked very good. NO OTHER QB THERE. Seriously. A coach was throwing during one drill. Sorry for the long rant, and a paragraph break may have helped the reading...ha. One final note, EVERY SINGLE senior that is done playing was there and basically helping. All class. Great to see them taking an active roll with the younger players. Honestly, I think we will be very average this year, but the youth on the team, and then the incoming recruiting class, and the fact that next year we should be able to offer everything under the sun to an incoming QB, I think we are in good hands.

Take care. GO BISON.

I have a feeling the defense will dominate the offense all of spring practice. I love when new coaches come in. The players have to prove themselves again. If there is any chance they are coming back, Coach Bohl should have them out there running around the practice fields all practice long as a reminder to the other players.

I had to laugh watching the Bison highilights last night (I know it was only one play) It showed Mertens watching/locked on his WR coming across the middle for the entire pass pattern...he did comple the pass though!!!

I hope....hope that Mertens can be better than last year.
Enough Mertens talk from me until August??

I saw the highlights and noticed the same thing. I thought, "wow, one highlight and you show the QB staring down the receiver". I think it will be impossible for him not to be improved from last year, but the MVC conference is a bear, one or two slip-ups and everyone is home watching the playoffs, calling for the coaching staff to resign. And then there is no peace and harmony on bisonville.

I hope Burgandy is right...but I have grown very tired of hearing what a good practice Mertens had. Looks like he is all we have. I hope he pulls it together, I hope he has better o-line play, I hope the coaches learn to call plays without fear. The offensive coordinator needs to call plays from the press box with a cougar sitting beside him. No fear of Mertens going down!! And dropped passes, we won't even talk about what happens to receivers who drop passes.

Here ends the negative thinking of TAB. Now I am focussing on winning and only winning.

Far as I can tell in my infinite football wisdom (which more or less amounts to watching last season's games and playing some Madden) we could be a hell of a lot worse-off. I say we reserve judgment until we see Mertens throw a few interc- I mean, until the season actually starts. Godspeed out there, boys.
