***ALERT****
The national weather service cannot accurately predict weather systems further out than 5 days. Therefore we will continue to adjust the Red River flood crest about 3 more times before the end of the month in order to cause as much confusion and widespread panic as possible. Also by adjusting our flood forecast every other day, we keep our name in the public domain and we also try justify ourselves as a relevant government entity. Thank you.

We are now revising our flood forecast for the Red River Valley to be...

NWS is worthless.

But stupid Moorhead is taking everything they say like it's the holy word, so we're basically diking up the entire city. Including our busiest street, 8th st.

F'in dumbasses.

The NWS headquarters in Washington is worthless, but the local and regional offices have done a good job. The River Forecast Center in Chanhassen predicted a 41 foot crest several days before the actual crest but was overruled by headquarters when national media attention focused on the FM area. I think this latest crest reduction means that the NWS headquarters has returned control back to the Chanhassen and Grand Forks offices, where it should have been all along. I wonder if Walaker has a source in the GF office that has been feeding him the most accurate data rather than the absolute worst-case scenarios that the headquarters was forcing the GF office to report.

Hey without the weather service we would have no clue as to how high the river will rise and when. Predicting the weather is hard enough for anyone let alone the river, its like shooting a shotgun at a bullseye. They still try to paint a ballpark figure so cities like fargo and moorhead know what to shoot for.

Sometimes a city will take if at face value like moorheadbut looks like denny was spot on with his prediction last week.
