First outdoor meet of the year results in five student-athletes qualifying for the NCAA Regional and two school records were broken. The Summit outdoor championships might be a bigger blowout than the indoor.

Leslie Brost qualified in the pole vault and set a new school record by clearing 12 feet 7 ½ inches.

Riley Dolezal qualified in the javelin and set a new school record by throwing 228 feet 11 inches.

Shawn Francis and Matt Bishoff also qualified for the NCAA Regional in the pole vault, and Amanda Benz qualified in the shot put.

The rest of the Bison team garnered more wins and top-ten places in the NDSU record book than can be listed.

Be interesting to see a chart of how many school records are broken in each year and see what kind of jump it takes starting ~2004 as we started recruiting DI athletes.

I noticed the Men's article said Travis Fitzke ran the 800 but was competing unattached. I thought NCAA rules prohibited unattached/red-shirting athletes from traveling with the team. If so, did Fitzke go down to Tempe, AZ by himself? Or does anyone know what the rules actually say?

He would have had to travel by himself since he is redshirting. I am not privvy to the specific details on his situation, but he cannot travel with the team if he is being redshirted.

That was simply a mistake, he did travel with the team and was not racing unattached
