Oakland's sharp shooting guard Erik Kangas has left their game against IPFW with what appears to be an ankle injury. Kangas got tangled up with an IPFW player and fell to the floor grabbing immediately for his ankle. The injury occurred with about 3 minutes remaining and Oakland up by about 15.

Of all the teams in first round play, Oakland has looked the most impressive. The loss of Kangas would be a serious blow to their hopes of making a run in this tournament.

Wow. That could be huge.

As soon as anyone gets updated status, post it.

OMFG!

From the argusleader blog:

Kangas suffered a rare/severe ankle ligament tear. Real bad, chance of gangrene. Apparently the had to operate and take his leg off above the knee in an emergency procedure at Sanborn hospital. But it sounds like he'll still be able to play.

Don't send him to Sanford. They've got a lot of money tied up in an SDSU final.

According to Oaklands coach, Kangas is having trouble walking (argusleader). Not sure if it is exagerated or not, hopefully he is ok.

“I’m not happy about it, but that’s basketball,” Oakland coach Greg Kampe said. “We’re going to play no matter what. But I don’t know (about Kangas). He can’t walk.”
