So what, its soccer who cares? If anything I will take one of those voodoo dolls with a generic soccer player. Soccer is for women and kids. Its a participation sport. Thanks soccer moms across the US for keeping little johnny from playing real american sports like baseball, football, basketball and hockey. Guess they are too afraid their kid would get hurt. Also takes some involvement by the parent to get a kid to the point of basic skills so they can start playing the other sports. Soccer is easy, any 2 year old can kick a ball. Just bring kid to the field, gab with friends while little kiddies run around chasing a ball. Soccer, about as exciting to watch as waiting for paint to dry. Rant done. :D

Soccer......isn't it kind of like kickball without the bases? Maybe we should elevate kickball to a varsity sport too? Soccer, isn't that a high school sport where it and cross country are two of the lowest spectator attended sports. Take away the moms and relatives and hardly anyone would be there.

It's a free country and people can boycott what they want. If I want to, I can boycott Nick's Bait Shop because his worms aren't big enough. I don't remember being too broken up over the Cedar Falls fiasco; and I'm not too broken up over this one, either. However, I've always wanted to have a reason to not spend my money at Blockbuster, and this is it. From here on out, I just won't go there. If anyone asks why, I'll try to remember this story.

I couldn't agree more. People are making to big of a deal out of this. I'm guessing its just a marketing tool. I would guess that Blockbuster's market is shriking in the US so they are targeting Mexico where they have a better chance at bringing in profits.

There's no need to resort to namecalling, simply because you don't share the same taste in sports. Over the last twenty years, I have been to exactly one (1) basketball game, and that one game was to see a family member play. Does that mean that I think it's 'gay'? No, I just don't care to watch it. To me, watching basketball is like watching tennis, only the ball goes back and forth much more slowly. I'm not going to lose any sleep trying to get others to agree with me. Also, other people enjoy the game and I'm OK with that. Nevertheless, I have no problems being happy that NDSU's WBB program has 5 national championships, and that the MBB team has beaten some big names over the last few years. you think soccer is easy but i can guarantee that you would probably suck at soccer. you think soccer is for fags so would you like to say that to the NDSU womens soccer team? I've seen probably just as many injuries in soccer as i have in football, basketball, baseball, or hockey. soccer is not just kicking a ball. there is an insane amount of skill involved. you don't have a fucking clue about soccer so don't try to act like you do. most adult soccer players and probably alot of high school players are easily more athletic than you ever have been or ever will be. and for people who say oh all soccer players do is flop around, its no different than a wide receiver trying to sell a pass interference call that obviously never happened, or a basketball player falling down while shooting hoping that a foul gets called. every sport does it. so don't talk shit about stuff you no absolutely nothing about you look and sound like a jackass!!

Back in the day when I was going to Grad School (at NDSU), I had the opportunity to play some pickup soccer with and against a number of 'foreign' students. That experience taught me just how demanding soccer is and demonstrated that athleticism and learned skills are critical to this sport. I also learned that the soccer culture accepted new faces and worked to teach the game.

I confess that I do not play the game and really do not follow it outside of the local high schools. However, I did learn to respect the athletes who played the game.

betcha I do better in a comparitive game with hockey and soccer (bring on somebody who has never played hockey and I will school them so bad, as for soccer I could stay in the game). Soccer is for anybody under 5. Parents who lack commitment in today's world don't have the time to teach johnny how to catch or skate so they drop him off with all the other participants who can kick a damn ball. So as they become adults it becomes a marathon kicking session......BFD.....soccer still sucks. Boring as hell and Americans are not buying it. Just cause a bunch of you young kids played it up til high school (anyone can) doesn't make it a great sport. So if everyone could play kickball does it become a national professional sport?

Seems to me your original post had some interesting inferences about the capabilities of the athlete rather than the television coverage or fans butts in chairs for professional games. If you are pointing out the lack of a solid fan base, I will agree with you. If you are saying that soccer players are not athletic ... sorry SD, there is no agreement here.

Actually, I was not too bad in old mans hockey but I ran relays and some distance in track. I stayed away from the pole vault as I could only deal with one long pole at a time. :D

FWIW, I'm a huge football, college basketball, and yes..soccer fan. I think Blockbuster's marketing campaign in this case was stupid and in very poor taste--and there isn't anything particularly unusual or surprising about that. It wouldn't motivate me to boycott them, but I'm not a customer anyway.

True. But the English Premier League is arguably bigger worldwide than the NFL. You don't like soccer--we get it. Some people don't like jazz, or country music.
