Allegiant Air is adding another direct flight city from Hector Airport. They are having a contest to guess what the city is:

http://www.allegiantair.com/contest/

Orlando, Las Vegas and Phoenix/Mesa are the current cities they fly to from Fargo.

Yes, because Seattle is well known for it's sunny weather.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air, which serves Fargo’s Hector International Airport, will announce a new “sunny vacation destination” Feb. 18.

;)

Could they be adding an island destination? Probably not, but it would be surprising. Maybe they'll make the international in Hector's name mean something by adding Cancun.

They announced to a flight from Sioux Falls to LA.

Yeah SF was one of the cities along with Fargo to get this new destination, could be LA, but why would you have a contest to guess the city and then name the destination in SF, or did the SF airport leak the news!! i'll go with the leak and Allegiant just fugured the hell with it and named it, hoping the other cities mostly in the west will not hear about it!:hide:

SO GUESS LA!!!

Looks like SF leaked it but Allegiant is still playing coy.

Allegiant Air adds new destination: Los Angeles (http://www.argusleader.com/article/20090206/BUSINESS/902060314/1001/news)

Sioux Falls Regional Airport Director Mike Marnach confirmed Thursday that the Los Angeles area would be Allegiant Air's new low-cost, nonstop destination being added in Sioux Falls.

Marnach said he suspected that Allegiant will fly into a smaller airport around L.A. Service will start around May 20 with two flights a week.

...

Allegiant officials wouldn't confirm what destination will be added at the Sioux Falls airport and 11 other cities. The company officially will announce the new flights on Feb. 18 and is having a contest to guess the new destination.

...

Allegiant officials told investors last fall that New York City, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Oakland, Calif., and Los Angeles were among several potential new destinations for the airline.

Adding LA now and NYC in the future would sure be nice. It wouldn't be as good as daily flights, of course, but every bit helps.

Codes are

LAX Los Angeles, SNA John Wayne Intl Orange County, LGB Long Beach, ONT Ontario, and BUR Burbank.

If you go to the Allegiant Website, and choose Fargo as your departure city, then Orlando, Vegas, Phoenix, and Daytona Beach come up as possible destination cities.

Unless, of course they are just trying to fool the masses.

Sorry, nope. Daytona Beach is listed because the airport you fly into is located in Sanford; roughly equidistant from Orlando and Daytona Beach. The webtool you use to select your flight also includes hotel reservations. Since the final destination for travelers on the Sanford flight could either be Orlando or Daytona, they list them separately so they can offer you the correct hotels.

The real destination is a smaller airport in the Los Angeles area.

I personally hope it's LAX. That would get me an easy flight to visit some of the grad schools I'm considering in the LA area. LA/Fargo connection would mean that the next 18 months will be so much easier for me.

It's not gonna be LAX, it won't even be IN LA, they press release says LA area, meaning it'll be like the Ontario airport. It'll be a smaller airport for sure.

I'm hoping it's Onterio or San Bernadino for selfish reasons. My uncle lives in Riverside and it's a pain to get him easy flights to Fargo or Grand Forks. Either of those two airports would make it a piece of cake.

BigDeal

Ontario wouldn't be bad at all with its close proximity to the desert cities, the inland empire, and LA. Also, becuase its farther east, I would imagine it would be easier getting to San Diego using the 15 as opposed to the 5 or the 405. LA is still a quick 45 minute straight shot down the 10 (assuming you don't end up in traffic). I'm not saying it would be "great," I'm just saying it wouldn't be "too bad."

I was browsing an airline workers forum and they said that it looked like it would be the San Bernardino airport due to all the money that they have poured into it, the easy access to Palm Springs, and the fact that they where actively courting low-cost carriers and that Allegiant was advertising for workers in Las Angeles, an area they currently didn't fly into as yet. So I guessed San Bernardino, but I still got an email saying that I was right, since it was within 100 miles of the actual destination.

NYC is being considered by Allegiant. They decided on LA this go around, but it might be NYC next time. If they do add it, Fargo would have a good shot to get the destination.

And NDSU can now sell this as a cheap and direct flight home to all the potential So-Cal football recruits and their families.

That is why I'm confused as to why NDSU doesn't pound the Vegas recruits. First of all the daily flights allegiant has, but second SUU is 2 hour drive away and NDSU plays there every other year. Plus, outside of SUU and NAU there aren't many 1-AA schools around Vegas to compete for these recruits.
