Thursday
IUIPUI 57 vs Oakland 75
WIU 71 vs IPFW 80
SUU 56 vs Centenary 81
UMKC 54 vs ORU 89

Friday
NDSU 87 vs SDSU 77

Saturday
UMKC 75 vs Centenary 83
IUPUI 84 vs IPFW 57
WIU 46 vs Oakland 86
SUU 51 vs ORU 67

Game of the Week- NDSU vs SDSU...The Bison are locked into a fight with ORU in the race to stay at the top of the league, SDSU on the other hand is fighting for a place in the league tournament. This a bit of momentum game for both teams as they try to finish strong down the stretch to accomplish their goals.

Something to watch this week if either IUPUI or WIU can rebound from their losing streaks. I think there could be some great games played between IUPUI/WIU and IPFW/Oakland because all of those teams just need wins at this point(Oakland to keep within distance of the leaders and the others to avoid being stuck in the bottom of the league standings).

How do you have to finish to qualify for the conference tournament? Attendence might be weak if Jacks don't qualify in games not involving the Herd.

The ninth and tenth place teams get left out.

What do people think of the Summit Basketball Championship format, compared to those used by the Missouri Valley and Big Ten? The 9 & 10 Seeds are just left at home by the Summit.

In the Missouri Valley & Big 10 (2 examples), all 10 or 11 teams participate in the bracket. It would be easy to use the MVC bracket (below).

Round 1:
10 vs. 7
9 vs. 8

Round 2:
1 vs. X - (highest seed Round 1)
4 vs. 5
2 vs. Y - (lowest seed Round 1)
3 vs. 6

Round 3:
1/X Winner vs. 4/5 Winner
2/Y Winner vs. 3/6 Winner

Round 4: Finals

It looks like the main reason for the current format is that the Summit hold the Men's and Women's trounaments together, while the MVC and B10 separate the tournaments. I still think that all the teams should participate.

Generally like it the way it is. Don't mind the last 2 teams out... gives some meaning to regular season and competing to the end of it. Also holding the tournaments together is nice to have.

Wow, Gents by 33 over SUU at the half 55-22. Cent is finding themselves, it will not be an easy one on the last Thursday of the season.

Some interesting scores. Oral Roberts by 35 over UMKC a couple days after the 'Roos took NDSU to overtime? Looks like ORU is picking up steam.

Here is an update on Today's games....

UMKC 39
Centenary 46 16:07 in the 2nd half

IUPUI 49
IPFW 25 Halftime

Can Centenary hang on and collect their 4th win in a row? If they win the Gentleman will likely be alone in 4th place, I doubt anyone could have predicted that.

Be careful what you wish for. If the #8 vs #1 matchup ends up being SDSU vs. NDSU.........
I'm just sayin'.....I for one DO NOT want to see that. It has "5 year plan down the drain disaster" written all over it!

All-Conference at the half-way point...

G-Ben Woodside NDSU
G-Erik Kangas Oakland
G-Nick Stallings Centenary
F-Brett Winkelman NDSU
F-Marcus Lewis ORU

POY-Ben Woodside NDSU

Power Rankings...
1. NDSU- You have to like the resolve of this Bison team...Down by 5 with a minute to go, no panic, the team just found a way to win a yet again. Now can the Bison find a way to beat Oakland?

2. ORU- The Golden Eagles just continue to roll, ORU demolished both UMKC and SUU at home. In the month of January only the Oakland Grizzlies have been able to score go above the 60 point mark against coach Scott Sutton's defensive minded team.

3. Oakland- After their little road bump in dropping two games to Centenary and ORU the Golden Grizzlies have won three straight games. Erik Kangas has averaged 32.3 points in each of those three wins.

4. Centenary- Who would have thought the Gentleman would be sitting in 4th place at the halfway point of the season? After being swept in the Dakota's Centenary has gone 5-2 in conference play, and with ORU coming to town this week the Gentleman have a chance to make their presence felt even more.

5. SDSU- The Jacks have lost three straight nail-biters, and two games against NDSU and SUU where they had their opponent right where they wanted them but couldn't seal the deal. There is no doubt SDSU has some talent but they will need to turn things around or they could be on the outside looking in come tournament time.

6. IUPUI- Ron Hunter's team had a rough go of it in Oakland, but they turned around and crushed IPFW on the road. Will that be a turning point for a young but talented squad or will they continue with their inconsistent play?

7. SUU- The Thunderbirds can win at home, but can they do it on the road? At 4-5 in conference play SUU sits in decent position but they will need to take advantage of the next three games they get at home before having to face the road again.

8. IPFW- The Mastodons just finished their three game home stand at 1-2, that is not a very good recipe for success in this league.

9. WIU- From 3-0 to 3-6, WIU continues their journey back into the cellar of the Summit League.

10. UMKC- With just two wins in league play, and losers in eight of their last nine games, it seems like UMKC might be one of the answers in who gets left out come Summit League tourney time.
