That kid is just someone you would remember watching play, as his shot is peculiar, his goggles stand out, and his name is NIMROD!

You just described a famous LA Laker, and co pilot of a doomed airliner I might add;)

I was at the intramural playoffs and I absolutely hope Marcus Williams can play on the bball team next season. He would make an impact on our team. Granted, he was going against ppl who play intramurals, I think he has the skills to play for us.

Henry Sibley combo guard Jordan Jackson

"I've been talking to the U (Minnesota), they want me to walk on," said Jackson. "Also, I've been in contact with Northern Iowa and North Dakota State. If I don't get an offer from any of them I'll probably be going juco for a year. I've talked to Hutchinson and Butler which are both in Kansas, and Grayson in Texas."

Pual Jesperson from WI just received an offer from Arizona St.

Jesperson currently holds offers from Colorado State, Northern Iowa, UW-Green Bay, South Dakota State, UW-Milwaukee, Loyola-Chicago, North Dakota State, and San Diego. Other teams that have shown interest include Iowa State, Butler, Northern Iowa, and others.

Jesperson has recently added offers from Minnesota, Northwestern, and Butler. Serious interest from Virginia, Notre Dame, Boston College, Wisconsin, Iowa State, etc. We're probably not going to get him. ;)

Well I did not read all 76 pages. So I was wondering if Rosemount,MN sophomore recruit, Matt Nelson has been brought up at all on this post yet? He recently got mail from and has shown interest in playing at NDSU he would not be here till the 2012-13 season. He is a very athletic kid. Don't get me wrong, he has a lot of room to improve and is not quite D1 material YET, but he is still young and has a lot of time grow and develop. He has a great, young, and experienced cast of coaches down there determined to work with over the next two years to get him ready to play at a D1 level. It will be interesting to see how this kid develops and if the recruiting of him by the Bison coaching staff continues over the next two years. Ill keep everyone posted (since I am good friends with Matt) on his status, etc. as this story develops more. :)

The Bison have offered a scholarship for the class of 2011 to Derrius Vick, a 6'2" point guard from Lincoln (Nebraska) Southeast.

The Bison will have two seniors this season, and have already received a verbal commitment from Chris Kading, 6'8" F from De Pere, Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-2, 180 pound Vick currently holds basketball offers from Colorado State, North Dakota State and South Dakota State and he's receiving strong interest from Nebraska, Wichita State, Northern Iowa, Iowa State and Oklahoma as well.

Love the idea of recruiting in Nebraska for bball. There's gotta be some talent in Omaha and Lincoln.

Omaha/Lincoln is good, but I'd also like to see a pipeline for football/basketball coming out of Kansas City. I don't recall seeing anyone coming out of KC or StL. I think we should be recruiting these metro areas, along with Chicago, as they are in the Valley/Summit footprint.

The Bison made the offer to Ross Travis about a year ago. He is a dynamic 6'7" athlete and a real rim rocker who is currently the #3 ranked prospect in his class by MinnesotaPreps.com. He has offers from Iowa State, Northern Iowa, and Oregon State among others. The Bison probably have one scholarship remaining for the 2011 class and there is a good chance that will go to a guard.

An interesting tidbit about Ross Travis is that some observers believe he was outplayed last season by his high school teammate at Chaska, Jake White. White is also a 6'7" F who is a top 5 prospect in Minnesota.

Quick note on Marshall from Minnesotapreps.com today. It was listing the kids that have signed with D1 programs from MN. He was the photo on the home page. Oh, and not sure why they list him at 6'6, he isn't.

As usual the Dakota schools expanded their rosters with Minnesota players. South Dakota signed Ellsworth big man Trevor Gruis, North Dakota inked Osseo point guard Aaron Anderson, and maybe the biggest recruiting steal of the year was North Dakota State grabbing Marshall Bjorklund. The 6-foot-6 power forward from Sibley East had an incredible senior year and many felt he could have been recruited at a higher level. Whatever the case, Marshall committed early to the NDSU staff and then he made them look really good by averaging 25.4 points and 15.3 rebounds per contest.

I DVR'd and watched back a bunch of the semifinal/final games from this week's Minnesota state high school tournament. I noticed a few juniors (Class of 2011) who, to my amateur eye, might look good in a Bison uniform some day.

Caveat: I have no idea if NDSU is interested in these kids or not.

1. Marvin Singleton, 6'5" F, Hopkins. Team won the 4A championship. A physical beast with great hands and ability to finish around the basket. I am surprised that I can't find anything to indicate he has an scholarship offers, yet.

ESPN profile (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=77695&season=2011)

2. Estan Tyler, 6'1" G, St. Paul Johnson. Team won the 3A championship. Very athletic kid who can defend and distribute. Streaky good 3-point shooter. Apparently already has an offer from UNI and interest from high major schools, so he may be a real tough get.

ESPN profile (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=107855&season=2011)

3. Jonah Travis, 6'6" F, Minneapolis DeLaSalle. Very strong and athletic. Had a poor offensive outing in a semifinal upset loss to Grand Rapids. Has scholarship offers from Northern Illinois, Wofford, Milwaukee, and Green Bay.

ESPN profile (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=107852&season=2011)

Joe Coleman of Hopkins would definitely be on this list, but it looks like he is surely a high major player.

Following-up on some kids I personally liked.

Marvin Singleton committed to Northern Iowa on July 4. http://minnesotapreps.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1100665

Estan Tyler also has an offer from UNI. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Estan-Tyler-99537

Jonah Travis now has at least 8 D-I offers (Harvard, Northern Colorado, Lafayette, Toledo, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, Northern Illinois, and Wofford). http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Jonah-Travis-99269

As mentioned by Mr. Burgundy in the Joel Lindberg thread, Damar Wilson is trying out for a walk-on position with the men's basketball team.

Wilson is a 6'4" 220 pound G/F from Anchorage Alaska (East High School). He graduated in 2007 and spent a year at Southern Utah, where he apparently redshirted.

http://www.suutbirds.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=20100&ATCLID=1365046

He was a three-time all-state player (twice first team) in high school. He was also the state 100 and 200 meter champ, setting a state record in the 200. He is in the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame.
http://00f3e34.netsolhost.com/allheros.html

He transferred to Yakima Valley Community College for 2008, but missed the season because of knee surgery (ACL). http://warp.yvcc.edu/athletics/Mens%20Bball.htm

He finally played at YVCC last year. He was second-team all-conference.

Wilson looked pretty good in a pick-up game yesterday. He had a couple of huge dunks on breakaways, had a decent looking outside shot, and more importantly matchedup physically fairly well with Freddy Coleman. He also blocked one of Trayvonn Wright's shots!

I would assume that (Wilson) a transfer from a Juco could play immediately (assuming his grades are up to par). It's interesting that the Juco all-conference page lists him for the 2009-2010 season as a freshman. Does that mean that he would still have 3 years of eligibility left? The SU page lists him at 6'4" and 213 poundsa couple of years ago. That would seem to me that he should be a strong player, with the track records indicating that he would have plenty of speed. That doesn't make him a great player but it looks like he has the tools to be pretty good.

Just think if we had the SHAC completed when we were recruiting him. When Saul said "We've had some high level recruits in here that love the campus, love the staff, love the program, but I just can't play in the BSA" (not exact quote, just what I have from memory) Jay Harris was the name that immediately came to mind. Seemed like he really liked NDSU, but I can't blame him for not wanting to spend his college years playing in the BSA. Could you imagine him running the point for us this year and then having him and Hale as our 1 and 2 guards next year, damn that woulda been sweet.

No question, the arena was an issue for Harris. In the end, an even bigger issue was that his mother wanted him closer to home.

The SHAC will have a beneficial impact on recruiting. At the same time, as MinnyPreps recently pointed out, not every young hoopster grows up dreaming of playing in Fargo. Part of recruiting at NDSU will always be figuring out which kids WANT to be a Bison. I don't mean to be negative, at all--and our recruiting seems to be steadily improving. I just think that we need to stay realistic.

I agree, Fargo is not a dream college location, but if the football team can get guys to come play here from Cali, Florida and Arizona, it shouldn't be to hard to convince a couple guys from the likes of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa to come play here. Big difference is Fargodome = Awesome, BSA = Shitty. Another thing I'm wondering about and maybe you have a little information on this is why are recruiting seems so localized. Is our recruiting budget too small for hoops? I just feel like even though there are obviously way more schools for D1 hoops than anything else, there are still probably some guys we could find outside of the area that fall through the cracks a bit that wouldn't mind coming up here. The only recruit from recent years that we have gotten from outside the few states I mentioned is Braun and what a hell of a find he was. Any chance we can expand the recruiting area a little bit to find a few more gems?

Braun had family connections to the area and NDSU as do many of our recruits. Real estate is location location location, I may be wrong but recruiting seems to be connections, connections, connections.

Yeah I thought I remembered that being part of the equation. Maybe are recruiting process needs to start each year with a mass email sent out to all alumni seeing if they know of any high school stars that have ties to Fargo or NDSU :)

Recruiting budget has never been an issue and never will be an issue at NDSU. The talent that has been coming on campus is getting better and better. We need to win, and get that BSA redone. When those two things can happen, we can win. Sidenote, we can win with 100% minnesota kids if we wanted to. That state pumps out a ton of kids. We are doing very good right now. We still have one more offer out. Should be interesting.

Taylor Baxter's spot is available after he left. We have an offer out on a kid. He is pretty impressive and has alot of offers. From the sounds of it, he may want to be going bigtime to a school that he has visited multiple times. Name is secret for now. If that offer doesn't come, we would have a very good shot.

I'm well aware Baxter's spot is available, I just didn't know we were pursuing anyone with that scholarship I figured Saul would wait until next year. If the name is secret could you at least release what position he plays?

A) I will take the $20 from Lakes. Not a Wisco kid.
B) Guard. He is a dude.

Ha, yeah, that was partially tongue and cheek. We have one offer out to a guard, we have one scholarship, so I looked at our offers page and saw one guard that was offered. Just putting 2 and 2 together. :hide:

Just saw on Rivals.com we have an offer out on him, ESPN has him rated at an 88 which would be the highest recruit we ever would have brought in, per ESPNs rankings. Damn that would be sweet.

I don't know, Burgandy says it is secret and I put up Washpun's offer in July when it was reported by a few websites.

This is the last I have heard about Washpun....

“I've been playing with him for a long time. I've been talking to Coach McCaffery about him and trying to get him a scholarship (offer),” he said.

“He's got so much upside to his game. He's so athletic. He can defend the best player on the other team and shut him down. I just hope Coach McCaffery gives him a shot because he's a great kid and an even better kid off the court.”

Washpun, who picked up an offer from North Dakota State last week, said he continues to hear from McCaffery as well as from several other programs but is in no hurry to make a decision regarding his future.

“I'm probably not going to make my decision until the spring,” he said. “I'm going to take some visits and I'm just going to see how the chips fall.”

Josh Gasser, a kid we had a scholarship offer out to, had the game-winning shot for the Badgers to put them over Michigan tonight. Nice shot!
