Not to mention the loss at Idaho (in that pathetic Junior High School looking gym). The current RPI puts them at # 298. Would not have been a "quality win", but clearly should not have lost.

Interesting...T-vac has on his blog that the Jackrabbit men will be struggling to even make the tourney in Sioux Falls. What a shame, a post-season tourney just 50 miles from home and they might get stuck watching it from home.

Ok, do we really want to sweap ORU in the regular season? It just seems to me it would be hard to beat them three times in one year. I know that may seem silly and I don't have even one fact to support the notion, just thought I'd throw that thought out.

LOL. Of course I'm not suggesting that. I just remember in high school a few times a team would sweep the regular season from another team and then end up losing a close one in the tournament, it just seemed like it was hard to beat someone three times.

This is a quote from Nagy about playing in the bracketbuster.

Considering it’s locked in a battle to make the Summit League tournament, the SDSU men’s basketball team is less than thrilled about playing in an ESPNU BracketBusters game at Cal Poly (6-17) on Saturday.
“It’s not easy,” coach Scott Nagy said. “The travel’s not going to be easy, I’m sure it’ll be not a great atmosphere. It’d be hard for us to get up for. But it’ll be hard for them to get up for it, too. It’s weird to play a game like this in the middle of the conference season.”

__________________________________________-

Considering they are a below average mid major team, that has yet to win a road game, I would be VERY happy that ESPN would allow you to play in such a game....and get a home game out of it next year. Hard to really rip on your players for being flat after a game if your coach is going to have quotes like that. How about this...."It gives us a chance to showcase our talent in a different part of the country, to see some new alumni.....etc." I mean, take it for the team or be quiet.

I read the Jack board for two reasons, I like to see Nagy's post game comments, as well as how Kai's Mom thinks the team is doing. Both can be very entertaining. Especially after last night's game....I had to grab a cocktail and enjoy the reading. Good times. Nagy was very upset with the team after the game and said that things WILL change. Same old song and dance there. They are pesky at home, bad on the road. I still don't want to play them in Sioux Falls. I would enjoy it IF we won, but the stress may not be worth it. Plus, I would probably pass out if they started a Nickel...I mean Marker trophy chant if we were up 30 points late.

Its pretty hard to motivate your team when the Coach himself is not motivated to play the game. A shame

Last night Kai's mom came on the board after the Jacks' game was over. She wanted to know who led the Jacks in scoring--it happened to be Kai so she was pleased. Sometimes Jacks fans make comments critical of Kai, which is understandable because he seems to have Randy Moss "I'll play if I want to" syndrome. The critical posters tend to get shouted down by others who are afraid someone might offend Kai's mom. Unbelievable.

BracketBusters shook up the Mid-Major Power Rankings a bit this week. Gonzaga, which views itself as too cool for BracketBusters, takes over at No. 1 after a careful comparison with Siena, which recorded one of BracketBusters better wins when it beat Northern Iowa.

1. Gonzaga (21-5) -- The Zags get the nod over Siena due to a 4-4 mark against projected NCAA teams, while Siena checks in at 1-3. Plus, even though it was early, Siena went 0-3 at the Old Spice Classic, while Gonzaga went 3-0 to win the tourney.

2. Siena (22-6) -- The Saints appear safe even if they don't win the MAAC tournament, but they shouldn't get overly comfortable. An 0-4 record vs. the RPI top 50 might be tough to overcome if the bids start to dwindle due to some surprise conference tournament winners.

3. Butler (23-4) -- How rare is freshman Gordon Hayward? He's averaging 16.0 points per game on the road and 11.6 at home after his 27-point masterpiece in Butler's convincing win at Davidson on Saturday.

4. Creighton (23-6) -- The Bluejays have steadily lowered their RPI from 74 on Jan. 27 to 47 less than a month later thanks to an eight-game win streak, capped by a BracketBusters home win over George Mason. Creighton is two wins shy of (at least) sharing its first Missouri Valley title since 2002.

5. St. Mary's (22-5) -- The Gaels have reassured the selection committee they can win without Patty Mills, going 3-1 in their last four games with the one loss being a two-pointer to Gonzaga. Mills is on track to return for the WCC tournament. A good showing there and St. Mary's will be in the tournament for the third time in five years as an at-large.

6. Western Kentucky (19-8) -- The Hilltoppers could have used a high-profile BracketBusters game to boost their resume, but for some reason, no Sun Belt teams participated this year. Western is closing in on its third regular season title in four years.

7. Davidson (22-6) -- It is Southern Conference tournament or bust for the Wildcats, who were manhandled by Butler at home. Stephen Curry was off all day, thanks in part to a bad ankle. The biggest threats facing Davidson in the SoCon tourney? The Citadel and College of Charleston, both of whom split with Davidson this year.

8. North Dakota State (21-6) -- The Bison picked up an impressive 77-69 BracketBusters win at Wisconsin-Milwaukee, which had just beaten Butler. North Dakota State has a shot to win the Summit regular season title if it can win its final game at second-place Oral Roberts.

9. American (19-7) -- The Eagles have won eight straight and are on the verge of clinching homecourt throughout the Patriot League tournament. Garrison Carr hopes to lead Jeff Jones's club to its second straight NCAA tourney and second berth in school history.

10. VCU (19-9) – My SI.com colleague Seth Davis said on CBS on Sunday he thinks VCU will go deeper in the NCAA tournament than any mid-major team. Personally, I like Butler, but guard Eric Maynor justifies Davis' faith in the Rams. The CAA tournament will be no picnic with Northeastern and George Mason, but VCU will enjoy a decided homecourt advantage in 'neutral' Richmond.

Any thoughts on who we want to play in round one in Sioux Falls?

Mr. Burgundy
02-28-2009, 09:36 PM
With SDSU losing to Cent, they will have a 7 or 8 seed. NDSU will have a 1 or a 2 seed.....this could get interesting.

If you read the SDSU boards, the regular season didn't mean anything, a few posters are critical of how things are going, but most posters seem pretty happy and it is just a few tough breaks the program has went through. All of this rests on the conference tourney....you have to love it. Cent went on a 19-0 run on the Jacks in the 2nd half. I am not even sure how that is possible.

Yea that is a tough draw for them. We will only have to play one of those teams. SDSU is not that good but they will have a good crowd in Sioux Falls to watch. Then (if they win) Oakland: not an easy game they can play great ball at times. Lastly,if they survive us. Wow the one seed makes it look a lot easier to win!
