I got my popcorn ready :D

That is unreal to have the 1 and 2 top scorers play together for their 4 years...along with a top 10 scorer

Thanks for the great list, some great names. Berwald's on the list after 2 years, and some only played 3 years. I remember Berwald's 50+ point night, that was awesome. To think that 2 players on this team could be 1 & 2 is awesome.

I had a front row seat 6 days later when he went 20 for 20 from the field at Augie. My best memories of Lance was him and Brian Cossell trading insults all day every day.....good times!

Jeff Askew would get my vote for best Bison basketball player ever. He could shoot very well, move the ball up and down the court with ease, make some unbelievable assists, and be counted on for several steals every game. An excellent all around player. He was able to entertain the crowd and made Bison basketball exciting to watch. I wish there was some video to share to show the kind of talent he had. Back in the early 1980's he scored over 30 points against Minnesota. Also, after his successful career at NDSU he went on to try out for the Harlem Globetrotters.
Anybody know what Jeff Askew is doing today........wonder if he will watch the Bison play Minnesota?

Erv is being diplomatic and promoting the current basketball team at the same time. It would be a tough call for me to say which player was better because Woodside is more of a shoot first player and Askew was more of a pass first type player.

askew was great and a Bison legend, but I'll pick Woodside right now as the best Bison ever. Woodside has gone against better competition and I may be little biased because Woodside's been playing while I've been in college here. ;) However, somebody who has actually watched Askew play teach me a bit about this issue... I could use a little learning

Askew's teams played Minnesota twice and Illinois once, and made the DII NCAA tourney once and lost out to UW Green Bay. He brought in the crowds, even though they probably over-estimated the 6000+ averages, the BSA was usually packed. Woodside probably did have better overall competition but I enjoyed watching both.

BisonBlogger

The overall scoring totals that these three players will eventually end up with are special, but you have to remember they were all four-year starters. Most decent four year starters would be 1000+ scorers.

What is impressive about Woody, Mike and Winks is that they have consistenty been double figure scorers from the moment they stepped on the floor at the D1 level.

Almost any team at that level you can name may get one freshman like that every so often but this team has had three from the start. It was unblievable.

Let's just say, Miles won the lottery with these three guys when he was able to talk them into coming into a situation with very little hope for any post season play in their careers.

Congrats Woody! At 15 points a game, Winks becomes #2 during the last regular season game of the year. ;)
I'm thinking Nelson will crack top ten by season's end too!!! That's flippin' amazing to have three of the top ten scorers in school history on the same team! These seniors have put on one helluva show for us! Will it happen? Stay tuned Bison fans...
Go Bison!!!

I'll venture a guess that if there is no NCAA, he will have a chance to score even more, since I believe they could make a serious run in the NIT

So, how often do you people suppose that the all-time leading scorer for a school gets passed up not once but twice in the same season? My wager is that it doesn't happen very often. Any guesses to frequency?

BisonBlogger
02-10-2009, 05:30 PM
I am quite sure this has never happened unless it is a school with a very short basketball history.

To have the 1st, 2nd and maybe the 7th all time leading scorers on the same team at a school with over 100 years of basketball history is off the charts.

To make it even more amazing is that they did it against D1 competition.

All three of these players have pretty much the same stat averages against high-major D1 teams which legitimizes how good they actually are.

Last three chances to see them at the BSA. It better be standing room only.

i'd like to see this happen but not sure if it i will i wish the sdsu game was on a saturday i think there would be more fans on a saturday for that game then on a tuesday, i still think there will be a lot for the last game especially because its sdsu...hope it does get packed though.

It is also the last home game for five seniors, the BSA better be packed for that game, being on a Tuesday should make no difference.
