Life as it should be in the world of Bison Football.

Now the team has something to really play for...and the respect from every team that they play. We will be the biggest game of the year for every team...and these guys will respond favorably. It adds the perfect edge to this year.

It will play well into the attitude of our players, and the coaching staff.

A little surprising, but then again it is the coaches poll.

NDSU holds on to the #2 spot in the TSN poll (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfoot2/misc/TSN-DIV-1AA-POLL.htm) (poll incorrectly states NDSU at #9 last week)

I also see the Trucks received 19 votes in the lame coaches poll, I hope the coaches don't think thats NDSU, I mean TXA&M-K isn't that great of a win is it??? but then again neither is APSU or CCSU at least they are FCS:hide:

I brought this up last week in the this wont sell out thread that being ranked number 1 is a easier selling point then number 2 ranked.. Couple bvillers said there's a chance if app st gets blown out by lsu, which happened...but they were totally outmatched everywhere and the score couldve been twice as bad.

Of course peay is no lsu by any means but by just observin on field play..ndsu looked dominate in every aspect excluding special teams...the bison certainly have a strong case to be #1 and the voters saw it...expect the ccsu game to be even more of a statement..

I think Ap State should be #1. I don't think we would give LSU that great of a game at Tiger Stadium. Peay while they definitley played hard are not at our level yet so I don't think that win tells us much. Also the o-line and special teams didn't seem that good while just listening to the game. But this poll doesn't really matter, I mean conference play hasn't started yet.

I agree. If App State was good enough to be #1 before, they should maintain that rank as neither game proved anything. But then, you know how those east-coasters tend to be. They always hold eastern teams in higher regard than western teams, so maybe NDSU's blowout of AP seemed impressive.

Well we have a long way to go. The thing I like about this is the respect we are getting from around the FCS.

Early season polls are just as much on what you have done in the past as what you have done lately. We have a huge target on our back but that is the way it should be with Bison Football.

I am fairly ambivalent about this ranking. I would prefer to be in top 10, but not number one. Now the Bison have a huge target on their back and I would imagine a lot of coaches will use this as motivation in games against NDSU since we are newcomers to FCS. But, it is what it is.

Until a 1AA knocks off App State, they should remain #1

But then again, the higher you start in the poll .....you don't fall as far when you loose.

One game at a time.....look out CCSU:D :D

App St. should still be #1, You can't fall out of that spot when you open with LSU and lose. Maybe if they opened with Bemidji and lost but not LSU. Besides that puts an awfully BIG TARGET on our backs really early in the season.

Doesn't this coaches poll factor into playoff seedings later on? If that is the case I would hope that the #1 ranking is a sign of respect that NDSU has already earned from coaches around the country and I'd welcome it.

Being number 1 or 2 can also motivate our team to be at their best also. It works both ways.

App State played a FBS and lost, they dropped. We have one in two weeks. We win, we stay. We lose, we drop. That simple. ;)

Jeff Sagarin's first set of ratings came out today. In his computer, (bayesian yet) we are 14th. Once again, these don't mean anything yet. (Just like the coaches poll at this point in the season.)

didn't you have your own computer program for football rankings last year??? are you still doing that?

I had a thing to calculate the GPI quicker than CSN would put it out cuz I got anxious!! :hide: (Yup, I'm a geek)

I might do it again if I get frustrated again. I'd have to update the old file to account for the newest members of FCS. (I saw UND had some GPI points coming from one of the computers. They're of course not in last years file.)

Odds are: I'll get anxious again and just update the file :D

If it really is that simple how does W Ill lose and go from 22 to 17?

Life is never that simple.

We should get dropped 10 spots for playing down in week 1. I don't want any part of being #1 after beating Austin Peay while the majority if teams played up. After 1 week, this poll has very little meaning.

We're definitely the biggest game on EVERYONE'S schedule right now. Except for maybe Wyoming but I'm sure we've got their attention after winning 3 of 4 to the FBS schools.

Actually, to a school like CCSU, we could be the biggest game in their schools history.

It's a big deal. If we are to make a playoff run, it's easier to start high and back iinto the playoffs than start unranked and work your way up. 3 losses and it's going to be tough to get into the playoffs, let alone a home game.

Since we're heavily favored on Saturday, I hope fans don't "take the day off" because we're officially the top dog in D1-AA football. Everyone who plays us is playing their biggest game of the year.
