Cy won the "Most Dominant Mascot Contest" last year by getting more people to vote than there were people in the state last year. It may be tough for Thundar to win a bout against him. I would imagine that they track IP address rather than cookies. If nothing else you can at least get in two votes per day with different nicknames and the old once at work once at home trick.

They only allow DI FBS & FCS schools with real mascots(they have slightly different term, but I can't remember it, and it only shows up when you vote). Since we're the only school in ND that fits that criteria and we're already in the main matchups, there's no point adding ND to the drop down menu. Alaska and Vermont don't have any DI football schools, so they're not there either.

Why help SDSU.......they are the enemy? With some mix of skill and fortune they have played their first two conference games and came out 2-0 against teams considered to be among the top five in the conference. They have a bunch of confidence and if by some miracle they win at UNI this weekend they will be the favorite to win the conference. Yeah, NDSU plays SDSU at home this year at the end of the season, but with the current win streak in Fargo odds are SDSU will end this soon. Hopefully not this year......

Tools > Options, then click on the Privacy tab.
Click "Show Cookies".
Find the folder called "capitalonebowl.com" and click "Remove Coookie".
Hit Close.
Now go back and hit refresh on the Voting page.

It should come back up and you can vote again....

You do have to use a different Nickname every time you vote...it's not hard though to type a jumbled mess of text and hit enter.

You should be able to continually do this and bypass the 1-vote/day limit.

The regular voting runs for 11 weeks. The number of wins and losses determines the place of finish at the end of the regular season. The total number of votes is used as a tie breaker. The top six mascots then go into the playoff phase.

Total votes are used as a tiebreaker according to the official rules from the mascot site excerpted below (complete rules may be found in a link in the menu bar across the bottom of any of the mascot website pages):

Regular Season Voting

The regular season voting will be conducted over 11 weekly voting periods beginning September 8, 2008. For purposes of this Contest, a week begins on a Monday at 9:00 am ET and ends on 8:59 am ET on the following Monday ("Voting Period"). Each week the 12 mascots will be paired in groups of two so that each mascot will be paired with all other mascots over the 11 week Voting Periods, you may cast one vote per day for your favorite mascot in each of the six pairings for that Voting Period. You must cast a vote for all six pairing on any day that you cast a vote. At the conclusion of each weekly Voting Period, the votes for each mascot will be tabulated and a list of the six winning and six losing mascots will be posted at the website.

At the conclusion of the 11 weekly Voting Periods, the mascots will be ranked in descending order of wins versus losses. The six mascots with the highest number of wins will advance to the Playoff phase. In the event of ties, the mascot that received the most total votes over the 11 Voting Periods will be declared the winner.

The Playoffs

The Playoff voting will be conducted in two rounds over a two week period beginning November 24, 2008. The two highest ranking mascots from the regular season will each receive a first week bye for the playoffs and will immediately advance to round two. The remaining four mascots will be paired as follows in round one: The third highest ranked mascot will face the sixth highest ranked mascot and the fourth highest ranked mascot will face the fifth highest ranked mascot in week one. The mascot that receives the most votes of each competition will advance to the second round which will be conducted in week two. In the second round, the first seeded mascot will be up against the winner of the third/sixth place seed competition. The second seeded mascot will be up against the winner of the fourth/fifth place seed competition. In the event of ties in either the first or second round, the mascot with the higher ranking will be deemed the winner.

Visitors may cast one vote per day during the Playoffs casting one vote for each of the two competitions in round one, one vote for each of the two competitions in round two and one vote in the championship matchup. You must cast a vote for all pairings on any day that you cast a vote. The two winning mascots in round two will advance to the Final Match, which will be determined solely by online voting over the Final Match week voting period starting December 8, 2008 at 9:00 am and ending December 15, 2008 at 8:59 am. The mascot with the most votes will be the Capital One National Mascot of the Year. The winning mascot will be announced during the 2009 Capital One Bowl on January 1, 2009 and will be named The Capital One National Mascot of the Year.

OK. So here's the deal. I'm sick of clearing out cookies just so I can have other members of my family vote for Thundar using my computer ;) so I put my better-than-average technogeek kung fu to work and sure enough found a pretty simple solution to take the mechanism that only lets you vote once a day and, well, make it not so much work.

AND this can be done in Internet Explorer 7 without a bunch of hoopedy hoo.

This method effectively blocks the capitalone.com site from putting a cookie on your machine in the first place while leaving cookies enabled for other sites that need them.

Go to Tools | Internet Options, and select the Privacy tab. In the Settings section, select teh Sites button. Type in www.capitalonebowl.com (http://www.capitalonebowl.com/) and click on the Block button. Click OK twice.

That's it. you're done. now VOTE FOR TEH THUNDAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If all these conditions are met, we are #1 after the regular season, no matter what. If we are, we get a first round bye in the playoffs!

Here we are, five of seven voting days done in this final week of the regular season. At the end there will be six mascots at 5-6 and they are eliminated (Smokey, Aubie, Cosmo, Mr. Wuf, Joe Bruin, and Mike. The six teams at 6-5 advance to the playoffs. Here are my projections (based on current totals):

Cy: 335,944 total votes
Thundar: 335,942
Buster: 334, 579
The Bird: 331,070
Cocky: 325,152
Testudo: 323,016It’s a very close race for #1 as you can see! For the playoffs whoever wins the #1 ranking will face off against the #3Buster/#6Testudo winner and the second-ranked mascot will face off against the #4The Bird/#5Cocky winner in the second round (#’s 1 and 2 get first round bye). Seeing this, would you guys rather be #1 or #2? Who would you rather face?

That won't happen unless Thundar can get by Testudo first. Thundar is back up by just 119 votes, but its got to be a constant on slaught of votes to get Thundar through the end of the competition

Hit up anygivensaturday.com for some votes (if you have a good reputation). Most there will want to see the FCS mascot win against the DI schools! Hit up our 'friends' from SDSU for votes in return for our write-in votes for the bunny! I've got a message from Lakes: "LET'S DO THIS!!!!!!" :nod: :nod: :nod: (We need a snorting Bison 'smile')

You can trust me that Thundar as he looks today is so much better than the 1995 Thundar. I just copied a tape I found of part of the 1995 NDSU vs Portland State game womens basketball, and there was a shot of Thundar.
