NDSU football: Prelvitz wins punting competition
The Forum
Published Wednesday, August 20, 2008

North Dakota State is close to finalizing its punting game personnel for next Thursday’s season opener.

Sophomore John Prelvitz was named the starting punter beating out true freshman Jason Obarski in the first two weeks of fall camp. The duel was probably irrelevant anyway; Obarski became the fifth Bison freshman to be sidelined for not getting certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse.

The Bison have run into troubles with the NCAA Division I upgrade of 14 core high school courses to 16, which took effect this month

“John was leading that position anyhow,” said NDSU head coach Craig Bohl.

Quarterback Jose Mohler, defensive tackle Danny Offerman, defensive end Greg Reid and offensive tackle J.J. Manowske are the other 4 that are having acedemic issues...

This is starting to become irritating. Why is it that i'm not hearing about NCAA clearinghouse issues with other schools around the country!?!?

What gives?

Nice find. I only saw the today's date and was completely confused for about 30 sec. Seems like no one learned from the mistakes made in '96.

So, back then anyway, the only way to get your son/daughter fast tracked through the process was to hire an attorney? I especially like the statement from the NCAA back to a school superintendant trying to help expedite the process. Nice mastery of the english language, apparently wasn't a requirement to work at the NCAA headquarters.

Thanks for the link, I would have to presume that the other schools are just not reporting the students that are not meeting the standards.

NDSU is just being up front with the public, unlike some schools we know...not to mention a name..

If a certain rumor turns out to be true, a nearby school may be having problems with a non-football player. Cal Poly also has a player having trouble getting through the clearinghouse.

The cynical part of me wonders if recruits for big time schools were given priority.

I know for a fact the downstream school has the same problem with one of their freshman football recruits, at least according to his dad. He blames on himself and the school counselor.

I don't know if it's the same kid, but Mussman just gave an interview where he said Ismael Bamba had just been cleared to practice/play by the clearinghouse after getting red flagged.

Not the same player, not to many Ismael's in this part of the world.
