Or at least we're getting their airplanes:
‘Spartan’ headed for Fargo (http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=209806§ion=news)
North Dakota’s congressional delegation announced Tuesday that the Air Force has “officially designated” the Fargo-based Air National Guard wing’s future mission as the C-27J Spartan, a twin-engine cargo aircraft.
The new mission – with a starting date that’s yet to be scheduled – will take its place alongside flying Predator drones, which replaced the F-16 fighter jets phased out in 2006.
Basically, the C-27J (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-27J) is the baby brother of the venerable C-130 Hercules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-130J_Super_Hercules). Same engines(2 instead of 4), same electronics, and same cockpit.
Sorry about the title. Too early and not enough coffee.
