Laura Roesler in the 800 to the semis
NDSU's Laura Hermanson in the 800 to the semis
Former Bison, Amanda Thieschafer, takes the 6th best jump into the triple jump finals.I think Andrew Carlson, a former Fargo South runner, made it to the semis but not to the finals.

Rachel Longfors, a graduate of Pelican Rapids HS (and four years T&F at U of Florida) advanced to the finals in the women's discus.

Congrats Rachel, go Amanda.
Our local media needs to do a better job of covering T&F athletes!

Thieschafer placed fifth in the triple jump, with a best of 13.84m in the finals. The fourth place finisher had a best of 13.84(twice), and third place was 13.96m.

Four runners fell in the semi and all filed a protest. All four were admitted to the final, which means 12 will be running for the 3 spots.

Laura did great to make it to the finals! In all honesty Laura would have had to make the top 3 AND get the "A Standard" to make the Olympics. To get the A standard she would have had to run 2:00 flat which would have been over 3 seconds better than her PR.

Either way it was great to see her race and we all should be proud she made it this far. Way to go Laura!

I really think the Laura Hermanson story is fantastic... when she was a HS senior her best placing at the state track meet was 3rd in the 400. Flash forward a couple years and she's among the top 10 fastest 800 runners in the country. Amazing.

Fans of the big-interest sports, football and men's basketball in particular, should pause and realize that Laura Hermanson is the best athlete -- measured by how one competes in their chosen sport -- at NDSU. I've watched Laura run many times and seeing her run in the Olympic Trials was a real treat. I think she has the potential to improve and her timing is good: it's possible she may be at her best as the next Olympics comes around.

Or almost any other University for that matter, in this given event. What has to be exciting for her for next year is that only 3 other people in the final are University affiliated. I think she probably has a very ligit shot at a NC next year, especially if she keeps shaving time off like she has.

And one of those three (the NCAA champ) was a senior.

This year at the NCAA's 2:08 got you into the semis, 2:04 got you into the finals and 2:03.91 won it. It's really a multi-day endurance event. With a little luck with the weather and stuff, who knows? You'd think that her experience this summer will help a little.

On the flip side, unlike the Olympic Trials, the NCAA championships aren't an exclusively American competition.

Yea, I guess I didn't consider the flip side of that arguement. Although if she can get her time down around 2 min. flat I don't think it will matter where they are from.:D
