Leslie Brost

Your incoming women's pole vaulter, Leslie Brost (Watertown, SD) WON the pole vault at the Nike High School Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Greensboro, NC., Friday night. Brost's 13' 3" vault set the meet record (she's been over 13-3 before). Today (Sunday), Brost is competing in the USA Junior Nationals at Columbus, OH. (I believe that's a 19 and under meet so she'll be competing against some who have completed a year in college...seven of the top 10 junior women's pole vaulters are in Columbus and, of course, Brost is one of them).

Brost went 13 feet, 5 1/4 inches to finish second in the USA Junior Nationals at Columbus, OH today (Sunday). She's going to Poland for the Junior Worlds.

By the way, NDSU's outdoor school record in women's pole vault, according to GoBison.com, was set at 12 feet, 6 1/4 inches in 2005 by Julie Stenkowski.

Top 12 qualified for finals (compare: there are more than 180 countries represented at these games and while all may not have pole vaulters, most do. Some of these same athletes will be names we'll hear at the 2012 Olympic).

The news reports seem inconsistent but I believe the actual case is 12 (not six) made finals and Leslie is one of them. I understand there were 24 or 25 vaulters who started in the competition (they had to meet a minimum height standard to qualify so all are excellent junior vaulters).

By what I see here Leslie finished in 8th place.
