Nominating committee members referred to Paulsen’s role in the firing of and severance package for former University System Chancellor Robert Potts in their discussion as they selected three finalists from a list of eight applicants for Paulsen’s position. Two used the word “fiasco.”

paulsen is a victim of circumstance.

1. the structure of higher ed in this state is less than perfect.

2. potts was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

3. potts needed to go. there was no way to do it clean-like.

4. potts was going to get paid.
