Rollable Field Turf in the FFD CAN be done.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – For the fourth time since it was built, the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome will receive a new football playing surface.
Installation of a removable REALGRASS™ Matrix system began on April 7 and will be completed by April 25 for the annual NAU Spring Football Game scheduled for April 26. It is the first removable REALGRASS™ system to be installed in the United States.

It should say "MplsBison, but" on the subject line, but I think "nut" is more appropriate.

(I have a boo-boo on my left index finger, so typing is kinda hard...)

Only $ 1 million ...where will the extra $600,000 come from when they are not sure where the firwst $ 400,000 will come from.

Hate to be a naysayer, but....

28 rolls at over 4 tons each??

I'm thinking the tray system might be just as feasible to convert the surface.

Weight is going to be an issue with all turf systems. 60,000 square feet of anything adds up, even if we are talking super absorbent Quilted Northern bath tissue.

Has anyone seen 21? We could do something like that, except instead of a blackjack ring we pool our money together and we let Slick and Lakes place sports bets. We can't lose!

I say do the field in Bison 'Gold' with green stripes. If the word is sent out, someone will donate the money. We continue to underestimate the potential of the Bison support.

GCity and I have discussed the colored turf on here in the past. I think NCAA may have problems with it, but it'd definitely be cool.

We'd need to come up with a good name for the field though, ala "Smurf Turf".

The field is actually below street level, right? So technically it's a hole. And yellow/gold is the color of corn. How about the corn hole?

Love the idea, but I think since Boise installed the Smurf Turf there has been rules adopted that require any new turf to be green, but I could be wrong.

Well, I have nothing to do today so I looked up the NCAA official rule book. I skimmed the field regulations part and found nothing that specified what color the field had to be. It did mention that field markings had to be white or in contrasting color. Guess that means, BRING ON THE CORN HOLE!

We should have a contest. Everyone make a different setup, then compile them all into a poll and vote on the best one. Ship it off to Gene for ordering :D

You guys need to get your mind out of the gutter. I was simply implying that our field is a hole in the ground and that if that field were to be colored yellow it would also be the same color as one of the states most valuable crops, corn. Put two and two together and you have the corn hole. Not to be confused with the butt hole which is in Grand Forks.

Ah, the great game of 'Corn Hole' as sanctioned by the American Cornhole Association (ACA). Played across the US and enjoyed as a premier tailgating game.

More information (including official rules and membership information) than you may want is available at:

Branded Premier American Cornhole supplies (http://www.americancornhole.com/)

American Cornhole Association Home Page (http://www.playcornhole.org/)

And for your viewing pleasure the trailer from 'Cornhole: The Movie' (http://www.cornholethemovie.com/index.html)

Unfortunately, Because of Trademark issues, we simply may not be able to reference any future arena as 'The Cornhole'.

There we go. Instead of that big Bison head, we can have another ugly Fargodome logo for all the video cameras to zoom in on just in case playoff viewers do not know who NDSU is before we lay the smack down on their team. :p Ahhh, but at least that idea could solve some of the money issue...

Why can't we just use some of our guarantee money from games like Ball State, Minnesota X2, Central Michigan, Wyoming, Iowa State, etc to pay for a new turf? The football team puts out the effort to play these games, why can't they receive the benefit?

The priority right now is to get an outdoor turf practice field. Replacing the dome turf is way down the road. And please lets leave the yellow turf a concept only!

Corn is obviously growing in importance with ethanol, but currently ND produces only ~1% of the nations corn (#14 nationally) and it only represents approx 6-7% of the total agricultural cash receipts in the state. So, besides not liking the idea of the 'cornhole', there appears to be little justification for NDSU going with that turf color versus say NE, IA, IL, IN or any of the other 10 states ahead of us in production :)

if we wanted it to have something to do with the state it would have to be "the plain" "rolling plain" or somethin like that
