I love track but don't follow the throwing events as much... however, I'm amazed that I don't remember hearing the name Riley Dolezal before. Seriously, 215 feet in the javelin? And he's from Stanley? That's a huge throw and looking at his bio, it sounds like he had improved every year since he got to NDSU. He still has 11 feet to get the NDSU record though :)

I will check out the javelin at the Drake Relays.

Had a friend "catch" one in high school. He saw it coming towards him with time to get out of the way. He could've run left. He could've run right. He could've run towards and under it. He chose to run away from it. He wasn't able to sit down comfortably for several weeks.

Man, I remember a North Dakota girl getting killed by a javelin back in the '80s. Very sad.

I also saw a guy get hit in the shins, dead on, by a discus at a Bismarck meet (it kind of skipped funny). That guy was tough because he didn't even swear. He hopped once and then walked it off. It would have broken my leg.

That was my brother's classmate from Tolna, in 1982 (just before her HS graduation) at a track meet in New Rockford. VERY sad...

EDIT: Just saw the date of this thread, must have missed it the first time.
