Centenary Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Tallach today announced that Rob Flaska’s contract would not be renewed as head men’s basketball coach. A search for Flaska’s successor will begin immediately.

“Over his three years, Rob was able to make some progress under some difficult circumstances. For that we are very appreciative,” said Tallach. “At this time, we are looking for something different in terms of leadership, and that is the rationale for this very difficult decision.”

Flaska recently completed his third year at the helm of the Centenary men’s basketball program. He came to lead the Gents after five years of successful assistant coaching stops at both Arkansas and Texas Christian University. His two recruiting classes at Arkansas were ranked in the top five by many major basketball publications.

Rumor from down south (ORU) is along the lines of Centenary very close to moving down to D-2. We'll see what happens. Two head coach openings in the Summit League as of right now.

If Centenary leaves, then the Summit will invite Chicago State back in.

I'd gladly trade Centenary with Chicago State.

I approve Chicago State or Utah Valley but not UTPA under any circumstances if Centenary leaves.

I agree on UTPA. The geography wouldn't be good with that one.

Did you know that UTPA is closer to Guatemala than it is to Fargo??

Centenary should really look at leaving DI if this is the best they can do in hiring a coach.....

Centenary College, whose men's basketball program has finished at or near the bottom of the Summit League the last four years, is having problems finding a coach.

Two NAIA head coaches have pulled their names from consideration to replace Rob Flaska, who was fired last month. Happy Osbourne, head coach at NAIA school Georgetown (Ky.) College, and Chad McDowell, head coach at NAIA school LSU-Shreveport, have opted to stay at their respective schools.

Among the coaches now being considered are Charlie Schaef, head coach of Division II school Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas and Steve Payne, an assistant at Tennessee Tech - a team the Bison beat this past season 90-72.

Centenary hires Greg Gary as men's basketball coach. Gary comes to Centenary directly from Duquesne and has 15 years of NCAA Division I coaching experience.
