I think someone did get there for us to #1 in FBS, but I don't remember exactly how it worked. I think it even went through MN though instead of CMU.

My favorite one of these ever is still after we beat WI and Jay Bilas gave us his #1 vote for the week in an ESPN pole using this type of logic.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe since the NCAA bought out the mens NIT the same transition waiting period as all other post season play applys so it was never even a possibility.
