Don't know how I missed this one yesterday-

Go Laura!!!

Hermanson facing stellar competition (http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=192566&section=Columnists&columnist=Jeff%20Kolpack)

The roll call of runners entered in the women’s 800-meter run at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend read like a running shoe all-star team. Nike, adidas, Reebok and Brooks Racing Team all have entrants.
They are professionals, although most don’t get the big bucks like baseball or basketball stars. Then there’s North Dakota State junior Laura Hermanson, who as of Thursday was the only collegiate runner in the 800 field...........

Best of luck to Laura. She has a very bright future ahead of here. The times she is currently running is nothing short of amazing. Most runners will peak in their upper 20's to 30's. Keep up the good work Laura and I and others look forward to watching you over the years.

I watched the final today. They took the top six times. The winner was in 2:02.

Sounds like the 2:06.99 is a PB and new school record. 0.49 from olympic trials qualifying.

She had the 11th best time entering the meet and finished 8th so it sounds like she very well.

Should probably mention that past Bison great, Amanda Thieschafer, took third in the triple jump with a jump two full feet better than the record she set at NDSU. It's also one of the top performances in the nation this year.

I hope another Laura from Fargo runs with the herd...

I proved last year how little I paid attention to HS sports when I didn't know who she was or the name. She played on the freshmen BB team at south I coached...heck of an athlete and good work ethic too.

she would be a great get for the bison
already as a 10th grader posting times that would win most of the bison meets in town

Nice feature last night on the WDAY 10:00 sports- pretty interesting.

Hermanson was originally a sprinter, but Godfrey moved her to the longer distances as he felt she had more potential there. Laura's times keep improving, and she's only 1 or 2 seconds from qualifying for the Olympics:eek: (she'll make a concentrated effort at qualifying this spring).

Oh yeah, she's only a junior, broke the NDSU 1500m record that stood for 24 years, and should be dominating the Summit League again next year.

Feature on Hermanson on the WDAY 6:00 sports, with an extended interview on wday.com about her virtual qualifying for the Olympic Trials.

Man, that's pretty inspiring. Hermanson placed third at the MN state track meet in the 400 as a senior in HS - now four years later she has set an NDSU record in the 800 and looks to be heading to the Olympic qualifiers. Outstanding!

I watched the NCAA D1 championships yesterday. Womens 800m winning time was 2:03.91 so Hermanson would have been right in there.
I believe it was kind of a windy day.

She should have a shot at it next season.
