View Full Version : Signing day updates

Just thought it might be easier to have one place for signing day updates (the pre-signing day thread is HUGE).

A very complete list from yesterday's Bison Media Blog: http://www.areavoices.com/bisonmedia/

Only possible new Baby Bison I've found since then is from Florida, Nakeem Pittman as reported by the Orlando Sentinel here:
http://www.areavoices.com/bisonmedia/

Of course, they could mean NDSCS for all I know.

Edit: Nakeem Pittman, WR, 5'9, 170, and ran a 4.53 40 at the Orlando Combine (36" vertical too).

Wide receiver Nakeem Pittman (5-9, 170-pounds) ran a 4.53-40 yard dash at the Jacksonville combine.
Coach Gierke says of Pittman, "He caught about nine touchdown passes last year. He had knee surgery right before the season started. He had a little piece of cartilage taken out of his knee. He missed the first two or three games of the season. He played much better the second half of the season, probably because he was in much better shape. He is on the track team and will probably be in the state track meet. He will be used strictly as a wide receiver and a kick returner."

MORE VIDEO/INFO on Luckas Scott... OH CMON!!!!! COMMIT!!!

Oakland Nike Combine: Scott repeats as top SPARQ athlete

February 18, 2007

Luckas Scott walked away from the Feb. 10 Nike Combine in Phoenix with the highest SPARQ Rating of all the participants. But for the running back out of Mesquite H.S. in Gilbert, Ariz., being the best in the desert wasn't good enough. So what did Scott do? He showed up at Chabot Community College seven days later, recorded the exact same SPARQ Rating (91.11) and took top honors among all the participants at the Oakland Nike Combine.

Though Scott's scores in the four testing categories on Saturday differed from those he scored in Phoenix, his identical rating proved his performance in the desert was no fluke. As a sign of Scott's determination to succeed and compete against the best, consider how Scott got to Oakland.

"It was about a 12-hour drive. We left at 5:30 p.m. last night and pulled into the Bay Area early this morning," Scott said before he performed his vertical jump test. "I'm a little bit tired, but I think I'm doing O.K. so far."

"O.K." proved to be the best. Again.

Hallejulah! Finally some competition. I'm impressed, two QBs in one class.

Too bad they couldn't score the kid of guy W Illinois got though. Wow...

Thats great. Now the "panties in a wad meter" over not recruiting a QB can be turned off.:D PL

After reading all the stats on him though, all I kept thinking was "what is wrong with him?", that he would end up at Western Illinois? Doesn't say anything about any rushing whatsoever. Maybe the guy only has an 8.0 40 time.:D If he is really is good as all his stats, why not one of the Big 10 schools or just about any other BCS schools, unless he is just not measurably big enough for them.

Glad to hear the QB from Bismark will walk on. Seems like a solid player.

I think we are very fortunate to get an in-state kid of his caliber, he is a very solid baseball player as well. he should contribute right away for baseball, very good SS I am very suprised he didn't get a scholly right away for that. QB wise he has a very strong arm and he can run as well. But I would say he is more of a drop back passer than a running QB.

It looks to be a very good well rounded class and looks to fill a bunch of positions in the future. The best thing is we are not sitting here saying "Well how are we going to fill "x" position".

This class deserves a big "MY OH MY". The cupboards are definitely not bare!

This is correct. Nebraska had one of the best walk on programs in the country when they were a force during the 90's.

The walk on program has changed. A kid doesnt just show up and say he wants to try out for the team. They are considered recruited walk ons and have to follow all the same NCAA rules.
Coaches cant even go to a college intramural game to look for recruits. I talked to a recuiting coordiantor a couple of years ago and you wouldnt believe how the walk on system has changed. PL

Still :offtopic:, but this post explains exactly what makes Mr. Lakes such an important part of Bisonville. His passion generates interest and keeps it real. Look at the threads that he starts - With very few exceptions, they tend to produce big interest and quite a bit of discussion, good and bad.*:hide:

Clipped from today's Rochester, MN Post Bulletin about Rochester Community & Technical College athletes.

"Slot receiver Nick Peterson is going to North Dakota State"

He's 5'10" 186 lbs, originally from Osakis. I don't have any stats and the PB frequently gets NDSU and UND mixed up.

I read that on Go.Bison.com. That makes sense. It's great when the athletic programs can work together like that, assuming that's what happened here.
I officiated a high school pre-season football scrimmage a few years ago and the home team had lost 50+ games in a row. They were a 4A school (5A is the biggest class) but only had 18 roster players the previous year. They got a new coach that year and he was able to get the athletes to come out.

They had a junior receiver who was 6' 6'' and was catching everything thrown to him. The head basketball coach was working the chain crew and told me he was the best junior player and would win Mr. Basketball. I told him he might end up being Mr. Football if he really learns the game.

The football team still lost every game that year (although they scored some points) but the basketball team made it to the state finals. This player ended up second in Mr. Basketball voting the following year (behind AJ Ratliff now at IU).

He was recruited by several big-time schools for basketball but chose IU because they would also let him play football. In fact, his scholarship was for football which was great for the basketball team because they were able to save the scholarship for someone else. I believe he redshirted both sports his Freshman year but broke out in football the next year. He ended up 2nd team all Big 10 and saw very little playing time on the basketball court. He had another great sophomore year in football and gave up on basketball. After a solid junior year he decided to go pro and has been invited to the NFL combine later this month in Indy.

His name is James Hardy and I hope he gets a shot. I can then say I saw his first high school scrimmage and told his basketball coach he would be a better football player than basketball player. He's another example of a player who got a chance to play at a big school because two coaches chose to work together and provide him with an opportunity. I've seen him projected as a first round pick on some mock drafts.

Yeah, Bob Hyland is in the NDSU HOF.

Bob's son Rob also played at NDSU after being named WI Player of the Year in high school. I think a knee injury and Feeney's talent led Rob to switch positions from QB to RB. Anyway, one of the nicer moments I saw at the FargoDome was on Hyland's last play, he got a standing O without an announcer prompting the fans or anything like that.

Rob Hyland was the quarterback in that famous "mud bowl" game against Pittsburgh State. My roommate at the time was also an EE and asked him in class the next day how it was to play in that game. "Oh, it was cold! It was sooo cold!" Nothing about any of the amazing plays that he made. Just the weather. Class act and a very smart guy.

The Signing Day Party is an annual event held in recent years at The Sidestreet Grill. It is by invitation only to major Teammaker contributors and members of Teammakers on the fund drive teams and a guest. Some members of this site were there as guests. I suggest that if you want to attend next year contact Pat Simmers and he'll get you on a team. We need people to Walk the Walk, not just Talk the Talk. Money Talks And Bullshit Walks!!

I actually crashed it a few years ago, did not realize what it was until Pat Simmers started talking about the people that were there :) :)

I was actually with friends that were on a team, and the next day I apologized to one member who promptly said it was ok because he was not there you were another persons guest.:) :)

He wanted to play baseball too, so I assume he is getting some money from that program.

Zach Wentz is an incredible athlete who will be a big contributor to Bison football. He's a good quarterback with a great arm, and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him in the mix to become the starter at some point. He turned down money from more than one school to walk on at NDSU. He said he's always wanted to play for the Bison. That is exactly the kind of young man that Craig Bohl wants on his squad.

That's the kind of players everyone should want. You know where their heart is, and they're not going to bail at the first moment everything is not going their way, especially when they could have went somewhere else for free.
