You may have heard about the efforts of IUPUI coach, Ron Hunter, trying to raise 40,000 shoes to take to Africa. There was article (http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008801210351) on the front page of the Indy Star sports section on Monday, but I didn't pay much attention to it other than reading the headline and seeing the picture.

On one of the national morning talk shows they mentioned Coach Hunter was going to coach tonight's game against Oakland barefoot to raise awareness. Then Mike and Mike had Coach Hunter on their show. He said he had already raised 30,000 shoes before the game was even played. One shoe retailer had donated 5200 of them!

Near the end of the interview, they brought on someone from Converse. The woman said they were very moved by the efforts and wanted to support. Since he was 10,000 shoes short of this goal, they wanted to donate 15,000 to not only help him meet his goal, but exceed it before the game even starts!!

I thought it was a great story and since it involves a Summit League team I thought I would make sure all the Bison fans were aware of it. There is a link in the article or you can go directly to samaritansfeet.org (http://www.samaritansfeet.org) to make a donation.

Thanks for bringing this up. He was also on the Jim Rome show on Monday talking about this.

Sounds like a guy who can see the bigger picture. Very nice gesture and extra effort on his part.

He probably nearly wears out a pair of shoes each game himself! You'll see what I mean when he's in town next month.

He was ABC News' person of the week. They had an interview with him and showed him coaching barefoot. Woody's back was on for about a 10th of a second. (you could see #10 making a turn) Grade A guy and I hope he has all the success in the world. (except against us of course) The Jungle is like a glorified high school gym though.
