Drago also had two punts blocked, out of like 27 attempts or some other ridiculously low number. But, that is not good. As the web site said, he needs to speed up his mechanics/motion, and quite frankly, that is what takes away distance and accuracy from a lot of potential NFL punters. It will be interesting to see if Drago can speed things up and keep the rest of what he has, that being distance and accuracy. If he can, he is a shoe in.

Typical Drago from the January 22nd Forum: "The workout amenities Mike Dragosavich had at a training center in Sarasota, Fla., included a chiropractor, a dietician, an athletic trainer, a massage therapist and a yoga teacher.

Yoga?

“I’m becoming one with myself,” Dragosavich said."

I would have loved to have seen the smirk on his face when he gave that quote!

Around the North practice (I wish this was better news.........)
• Maybe the best attraction of the North practice was West Virginia FB Owen Schmitt. You wouldn't think that a semi-contact practice would show off the talents of a big, physical, mauling, blocking fullback and early on, it didn't as Schmitt showed that he is not a natural hand catcher and struggles to flip his hips in space and quickly get upfield. But the bruiser quickly became the North's quarterbacks' favorite target as a dump-off option. He made a nice catch during the seven-on-seven drills and several during the team period, including taking hits that twice took his helmet off to expose his Mohawk haircut. Since the quarterbacks did not yet have a feel for the deep passing game or great timing yet with their deeper options, Schmitt was the benefactor.
• Iowa CB Charles Godfrey showed excellent quickness and was sudden coming out of his breaks. He plants and drives well and has the long speed and size to keep up with most NFL wide receivers. He competes hard and brought a lot of energy to this first practice. He did have one mishap though when he fell down awkwardly in the open field after failing to get a hand on Justin Forsett, who demonstrated excellent make-you-miss ability and overall quickness for the entire practice.
• Michigan State TE Kellen Davis has some serious potential. He has a great build and is a very fluid with his movements. He has the chance to develop into a feared target. However, Davis still has a long way to go. He doesn't find and snatch the ball consistently and his ball skills and ability to adjust to the football is questionable at this point. If he dedicates himself to working on the nuances of playing tight end, Davis could make a real impact at the next level. But it will not come overnight.

• In a shocking contrast, P Mike Dragosavich is nearly a foot taller than his special counterpart, K Alexis Serna. Obviously these two spent a lot of time together during the bulk of practice and they look like the stars of "Twins" sequel. When they got their time to shine, Serna came through on his several field goal attempts, while Dragosavich's performance left much to be desired. Dragosavich has very long kicking levers and is too deliberate in getting his punts away. He also didn't demonstrate very good control with his punts.

But is he a shoe in? Trust me I am all for Drago making it the NFL, but one has to remember the following 2 items.

1. Drago is a very good punter.
2. There are what 32 teams in the NFL, they all have punters who are very good and trust me DO NOT want to give up theirs jobs.

Go Drago, kick em high, long, or pooch, whatever fits the program.

Seattle and Buffalo are tied for 4th in the league for most punts inside the 20. Depending how you look at it their punters should be upgraded on your list or their coaches should be fired for chickening out too much on 4th down in opponents territory. :)

The numbers are more than likely sewed. I am a Bronco fan and they are struggling to find a punter. Sauerbrun was their punter but got released because of some off-the-field issues. Also, you have to remember the elevation difference there causes their punters to have a higher average at home than on the road.

Oh thanks. Still don't understand how # of punts counts towards the teams.

I agree with you...but it sounds like the rules in major league baseball, like you have to have so many at-bats to contend for the batting title, so many starts or innings pitched to contend for the Cy Young, etc, etc.

But having a great offense shouldn't penalize a punter. All you have to do is watch the game film a little...or just look at the stats on the punts that he actually 'did.'

This is stupid. Drago is a Sunday player...slam dunk. I guess you have to play for a bad team to qualify as a punter.

North punter Mike Dragosavich, who is from North Dakota State, just connected on the longest punt in Senior Bowl history -- 69 yards. Most punters don't get drafted before the 4th round, but keep your eye on this kid.

The 37 yard punt was caught right around the 15 yard line (give or take a yard) and returned to the 20. Not a great punt, but not a bad punt either. I think he was trying hard to place it so it landed closer to the 5 yard line instead of putting his foot into it and landing it out of the end zone. Also, it was his first punt and only a few minutes into the game. Trying to angle a punt could have been risky and given up some field position if not done well. Overall Drago had a great game. Congratulations to him.
