He didn't punt enough to qualify in the statistics and his average is less than the guy who won it.

Drago: 27 punts 45.4 average
MacDonald: 49 punts 45.92 average

I would say MacDonald deserved first team and I'll also say Drago is a hell of a punter too.

Yea, McDonald definitely deserved that nod over Drago and that's no disrespect to Drago whatsoever.

A victim of not punting much and when you do your trying to pin the opposing team inside the twenty.

We know Drago is the sh*t but I guess it hurts the average when you have a powerhouse offense like ours and Texas State goes 4-7 with a terrible offense, and I think Drago would take our record over his punting average. Stand up guy.

I forgot how many times Drago pinned it within the 20. That's kind of a lost art in the pros and that probably hurt his average. Is Drago #1 on the draft boards?

27 punts
11 inside the 20
8 touchbacks

Last time I checked, he was the #2 punter on Mel's (Kiper) Big Board. ESPN keeps that updated. I haven't looked in a while.

We are all hoping that the Senior Bowl will put Drago in the spotlight!

DEFINITELY? If all you go by is punting Avg. then okay but there's more to punting than distance. Drago had 19 out of 27 punts inside the 20 or touchbacks and a pass for 1st down. I wonder what McDonalds avg for inside the 20 was?

the inside the twenty stat is also scewed because it all depends on where you are punting from...hard to compare punters unless you get some video of each and pick one by timing how fast a punter can get off a punt, how "able" a punter is to read a situation, etc.

Anyone know the difference between their net averages (I'm assuming the stat listed in the second post was gross)? That's also a good indication of how good a punter is, as it takes into account hang time, touchbacks, etc.....

I think that his being chosen to the senior bowl is enough. The exposure to every NFL coach will be what he needs.

Drago got a lot of attention from the scouts during the season, so he is pretty well known already.

I really like what he did at the goofer game this year when he knew the pressure was coming to block the punt.

I couldn't find any of his stats for inside the 20 unfortunately.

He did have 19 of 50 punts that went over 50 yards, which is an astounding number considering he isn't always punting with the entire field to work with.

Does McDonald have a 100% passing efficiency??:p

Do you think Drago not punting much this year hurt him...

I mean - it's a credit to our O, but does him not getting a lot of chances to crush the ball, hurt him?

Hell, I bet he's one of the only punters in the Nation that's 1-1 passing as well!

Don't really want to be lumping inside the 20 and touchbacks together. Touchbacks are generally considered a bad thing in the punt game.

Net yardage may be informative as hangtime is definately a factor in quality punting but that stat is also going to encompass the quality of your coverage team.

In any case Drago is very skilled. Hopefully he'll have a chance to showcase those skills at the Senior Bowl. At the least, the coaches will get a good look at him in practice which many weigh more heavily than the actual game. He's likely to get drafted and it is very likely that he'll get a serious look at the next level.

Great...something else on the NFL Network.

Herd, you have to get the NFL Network. The NFL combine is addicting to watch. Best reality TV I have ever watched. They show live the weightlifting, the 40 yard, the shuttle run, etc. Doesn't sound like fun, but for some reason you can't turn it off. Fun to watch the NDSU guys on TV doing the drills. Rob Hunt was on benching 225 a couple years ago. He did great at the combine.

I agree it is fun to watch. BTW, in case some don't know, the 225 lb bench press is for how many reps you can get in one set. For lineman this is usually in the upper twenties and lower thirties. Just wanted to clarify in case some might think a 225 max is pretty weak.
