The softball team kicks off the 2008 season with UW-Green Bay and Iowa State coming to the Fargodome for a bunch of games in February.

Cool. Have they played softball in the Dome before? I'd wondered if it was possible. I wonder what the configuration will be?

I was wondering if they had before also, but either right or left field might be a little short. Lots of home runs?

Watched Bison girls play a couple years ago in the dome. Worked out great. Not that many homeruns. Home base was on about 50 yard line on east side. I believe it was was one of the teams, when they were in their playoff run years.

An Easter weekend tournament in '02 was the last time I remember the Bison hosting games in the Fargodome.

I was working in Sports Information at the time, so I had a job for every game in one way or another (stats, scoreboard or PA) My memory of the tourney was a larger gal from U-Mary trying to slide back into first base on an aborted tag-up attempt. Because they don't have dirt pits, the turf didn't have much give and she ended up breaking her leg. I have never in my life heard someone scream that loud, and because there were only 250 or so people in attendance, it was fairly creepy.

For those that go the games though, be aware of rocket foul balls because of the lack of backstop netting. However, it is a decent place to watch games.

Great to start the season at home. But whats with the Softball webpage. No bio updates or additions. Who's who? Looks neglected.

Anybody know game times or ticket prices for this? It might be worth a look before the men's game on Saturday. I would be interested to see how the dome is set up and I have never watched that level of softball. I would assume Iowas State has a good program since they are big 12.

I am just hoping that the opposing teams will make it with the stupid weather coming in.

If they arrive they can play.

I hope to be able to make a stop by either Saturday for a bit, and Sunday for sure.

Sorry, I think I saw 10:00 AM and 2 PM daily for game times. Softball tickets are normally free for Teammakers, but not sure since its in the dome.

No more than the coach said at Teammakers today. A veteran pitching staff and catchers. Young outfielders.

Watched the ISU game today and Melissa came up clutch and knocked a 2 run shot out of the dome. Allison pitched a solid game only giving up a run and the won the last game 3-1 against ISU. Nice work ladies. So are the Bison tourney champs then?????? Road you probably know. ;)

I would guess a 4-1 record might win the tournament, if there was a winner announced.

Melissa Chmiewlewski was named the Miken tournament's most outstanding player after hitting .615 in five games with eight RBI, six runs scored, a pair of home runs and a double. Allison Bakke was selected the tournament's most outstanding pitcher after compiling a 2-1 record with a 1.05 earned run average in three appearances and a pair of complete games. Bakke recorded 17 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched.

Not too bad of a start for these two players!

It was kind of fun watching the games in the Fargodome. I would guess there were more fans there than normally watch when they play outdoors. Attendance on sunday was 223.

Why is it named the Miken tournament?

Why is it named the Miken tournament?

Miken makes baseball and softball equipment; bats, ball & gloves. They must be sponsoring it. They're based out of Caledonia, MN.
