We're +12 in turnovers this year with 28 takeaways total.

We match up well physically (ask Ellerson). We have a 1,250-yard back to match Roehl. Walker is an unbelievable player, but Berry is very efficient. Jaron Harris returns and is a major deep threat to match yours. On paper, NDSU has to be the favorite, but it's a home game for us. Lots of Bison fans there, too, of course. Our defense is greatly improved. Watch out for Jimmy Rogers who leads the conference in tackles and has a couple of picks. He's way too small to be a linebacker but is a great effort player and fun to watch on defense. Rogers' small size allows him to cover WRs and gives the D some flexibility. Tyler Koch can't seem to stop pulling picks out of the air and running them back for TDs (five picks, 3 TDs in two weeks.) Not that I expect Walker to be throwing anything up for grabs. He's too good.

Everything points to a close, hard-fought game. I think our special teams are a little better. Our kicker has an edge. Your punter has an edge, although our punter has been GWFC special teams player of the week. Our punt and kickoff return teams have been stellar. You've got Shamen Washington.

Close game. Down to the wire. 16,500 fans in attendance. Looks like pretty nice weather in the 40s and sunny. Should be fun. I have to pick my Jacks.

We know we can hold our own against anyone and if we don't shoot ourselves in the foot with penalties we will win 38-28. Heres to going out on top at the end of our season:cheers:

In a game filled with big plays, I say the Bison make the most big plays to triumph in the Great West Football Conference Championship Game.

SDSU's special teams are suspect and I predict Shamen Washington breaks a punt return for six early in the 4th Q to seal the deal and put the game out of reach.

You're aware that our "slow motion" team beat that "speedy" Cal Poly team by 13, right?

Also, you might ask Coach Ellerson who's more athletic, NDSU or SDSU... oh, that's right, he said it's even. Oh, and Jayson Foster the very fast QB of Georgia Southern said SDSU was a very fast and physical team. I guess they were both lying.

It's certainly possible to look at this game and say NDSU is the clear favorite. Just don't make up stuff like an assertion that SDSU is slow, without any evidence to back it up.

jimmyjack

SDSU's special teams are suspect ...

Huh?

We've had 921 kickoff return yards with an average of 26 yards. Our opponents have 751 kickoff return yards, an average of 17.

We have 384 punt return yards, and are averaging over 12 yards per return. Our opponents have 163 punt return yards, averaging 10. I would note that our returner, Paul Aanonson has called for a fair catch once this season.

Parker Douglass. Do I need to even go through his stats? Our net punting average is 33 versus a 27 net average for our opponents. Dean Priddy has punted 41 times with a 38 average, but 14 of those have come to rest inside the 20. So he's punting on a short field most of the time. His long is 58 and about 10 percent of his punts go for more than 50.

So... I'm trying to figure out why you would say that our special teams are suspect. Look at the stats and tell me what's suspect about that. Looks kind of dominant to me.

I guess we will see on Saturday. Cal Poly is a overall speed defense from side to side and they use speed to get into the backfield. That is one of the main things I hear from people that have seen them play both down there and out in SLO. If you think you are a overall speed defense we will see on Saturday. I didn't say you are slow but I think you will play slower than Cal Poly did.

I wish I shared the confidence some of you have. We're really banged up and were lucky to win last week. I'll pick us to win but it's going to be a close battle. SDSU always plays us tough (recently anyway), especially in Brookings.

Look for 83 to make a few plays...he's a better player than he showed last week. Number 1 will be Herd as well. The thing that scares me is the long pass by the Jacks when we don't get pressure on the QB. We need to score some points early.....if we do that I'm very confident. If we don't it could come down to some more Walker magic.

BTW, walker needs 300+ yards to catch Feeney (7,242) as the career total offense leader.....let's hope he doesn't need that many yards, as that will mean we're struggling to run and/or are behind. There are a couple of other records within his reach as well. Who knows what they are?

Jayson Foster (faster than anybody on either of our teams) said SDSU is physical AND fast. That's all I said. I didn't claim we're a speed defense. Not sure where you got that.

I'm just trying to debunk some of the myths being discussed here. NDSU is the favorite, as I have said and I have nothing but respect for your program. Nothing.

But we're not a bunch of lumbering clods. We're not in awe of anybody's athletes. Nothing flashy about the Jacks, but we haven't been run off the field by anybody. Only one team has thoroughly beaten us this year: UNI. And they're pretty darned good.

I'm sorry but after the wakeup call last week I think the Herd get down to business and put this one away in the 4th quarter. 45-24

SDSU defense is much improved? They are giving up 180+ rushing yards per game and opposing QB's are completing on average 70% of their passes. Walker isn't exactly average and neither is our running game.

hopefully no injuries for either team.

Of course yards are the most important measure of defensive performance because the team with more yards always wins... oh, wait. Maybe scoring defense is a better measure. How do the teams compare?

I'm sure the Bison are way, way better in scoring defense.

My Prediction....

SDSU(6-4) vs NDSU(10-0)

Why Watch: Once again this annual border battle has become the Great West title game. Over the past two years the Jacks have to had to play the Bison in Fargo so you could probably say they've had this game circled on their calenders for quite some time. All of the talk about bragging rights, conference titles, and revenge is all nice but what I love about this game is the style that these two teams play with. Both teams are well disciplined and will go about things with a mentality that they will run the ball right at you until you prove that you can stop it. This will definitely be a showcase of smashmouth football at its finest, shame its not on TV but if you want to see it both Gobison.com and Gojacks.com will have a webcast for a small fee. I highly advise any fan of smashmouth football to be in front of their computer screens watching this one on Saturday.

Why NDSU Might Win: NDSU will be the most balanced team SDSU faces all year, NDSU can beat a team both on the ground and through the air. Last week Cal Poly put the clamps on the NDSU rushing attack but Steve Walker was still able to find his receivers and rack up 342 yards passing. Along with a very potent and diverse offense the Bison also have a defense that has limited SDSU to only 203 yards rushing in their last two games. SDSU has a capable passing attack but there is little doubt that thrive when they can take it to a team with their ground game. If the NDSU defense limits SDSU to around a 100 yards again the Jacks will have a tough time pulling this one out.

Why SDSU Might Win: The Jacks have been one of the most opportunistic teams in the FCS this year. They have one of the best turnover margins in the FCS at +12 and taking care of the football is something NDSU has had a little trouble with this year. SDSU is also a very tough team to beat at home. The Bison have lost two straight games at Coughlin Alumni and I'm sure the chance of winning a GWFC title at home will have all the Rabbit faithful worked up into a frenzy.

Prediction: This will be another great chapter to the budding NDSU-SDSU Border Marker rivalry. Both teams are heading into this game playing great football and both have a shot at making some history with a win. With that said, I can't go against Steve Walker in his last game at NDSU. It will be a close game but Walker will find a way to get the win. NDSU-34 SDSU-27

More GWFC prediction can be found on my Great West Blog...

Joe will be A-Mays-ing. Tyler will roll. Walker will have a Walker type of day...unlike in SLO. He put together three of the worst quarters that he's probably ever played against Cal Poly. Nate won't play it Safe. Shamen will return one...maybe two. Humber, Mays, & Maresh will dominate. The defensive line just has to play decent. No big mistakes.

If Walker is his old self and the offensive line comes to dominate...this could be a moderate blowout.

But like you wrote...we must limit the Wabbit running attack. I agree that this will be a key.

I predict that this will be another game where the Bison will give up a score and then return the favor. The Wabbits give up the ball and we score again. They get a field goal and we score again. Three and out and we score again. They score. We score.

45-24 Bison

If the Wabbits wanna get into a twack meet with us...they're in deep twubble.

If it's low scoring...then it's a toss-up. And like you said...turnovers will then become a big factor. In a track meet...not so important.

I just saw the video on Youtube that showed SDSU vs. Cal Poly. Amazing. That Jackrabbit rushing attack must be STOPPED. This will be close. At 1 p.m. today, it is fate who must decide this battle. A battle for the Dakota Marker, a conference championship, a team who is on the verge of an undefeated season, a team who could play the upset card, and, most of all, FCS glory.
