We spent the weekend at the U OFM. Wackers niece is director of operarations for volleyball at Stanford. The games were played in the Sports Pavilion. So we snuck into the Barn and got down to the court. Wackers son shot a couple of free throws etc.. What a great old place. What history etc...

The Barn is awesome. I've been in the lobby and the place is just massive. The Pav is a nice place to watch wrestling but how did they play hockey in there??

No, the hockey games were played in the end of the building where the pavillion is now located. The space was bigger at the time hockey was played there. The upstairs room overlooking the pavillion was not there in those days. The "barn" and the "pavillion" are in the same building with the same roofline.

Look in that old picture of the hockey rink. The ice actually went underneath the seating in the basketball arena!

Thanks Road for the history on the building. Wacker and I were wondering what it was used for before.

It was also called Mariucci Arena in those days. They moved the name across the street to the new hockey arena.

Thats a very nice looking arena also. What are they going to do for parking when the football stadium is completed?

Mariucci Arena is the best (NOT NICEST) arena in college hockey. The band is loud, the fans are loud, and everyone is into it. At the Ralph the band is in the upper deck and the fans only make noise when the scoreboard tells them to. (Just like the FFD most of the time. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: ) Only my thoughts but I know I'm not the only one.

I love hockey arenas where you can hit the concessions and still turn around and watch the game...not to be confused with me loving hockey.

The "Barn" is great. Last time there, which was a while ago, we were right on top of the team, and so close, that my buddy gave Clem a high five.

Last year, I sat in the first row behind the Bison bench. It had to be the worst seat in the house!!!!!!!!!!
